Usual anti-Souths brigade out in force again. Why wasn't there a thread when Thaiday did exactly the same thing against Melbourne last week? He was initially fine when the Storm player's elbow came into contact with his head and then went down as quickly as Reynolds did today.

Am not condoning what Reynolds did. Just saying you're all a bunch of jealous hypocrites for only calling him up for it.

Or it could be just another little 5(c)uff$ supporter tanty after someone dare say anything slightly negative about one of their own.

FFS why do these debates always come down to which club the player plays for? Some things have to move past petty rivalries or support for your club.

Diving is disgusting. It's easily the worst thing about Soccer and I'm sick of watching it creep into League. It's getting worse all the time and Reynolds yesterday was just one of many many incidents this year.

It's an incredibly simple fix too. Just don't let the video ref adjudicate on penalties in open play. Having the "concussed" player forced off the field for assessment would be a good option too.

In the Panthers v Titans game, Coote got tackled and stayed down hurt and the refs blew time off and asked the video ref to check it for a highshot, Coote said to the ref straight away "He got me on the shoulder". On ya Cootey, show these weak merkins what a real footy player looks like.

In the dogs manly game keating got hit high but took the most obvious dive in history. The video ref looked at it and didn't give the penalty, purely because of the obvious dive I'm guessing.

It was 'pick on Fui' day yesterday. Reynolds is a f@cken cat who will be exposed as a weak link when the finals roll around. They should start keeping the stats for 'dives' it would make for interesting reading, particularly if you are a Tigers or Rabbitohs fan.

Sharks and Manly have already shown that...

Sisa Waqa stays down, Storm receive the penalty. Again, surely even a captain's challenge type system would be better, the game doesn't need the 5 minutes of theatrics that go with every borderline infringement.

Waqa will be re-enacting his efforts at the nightclub tonight while everyone pisses themselves laughing that the ref's bought it.

How was the Waqa incident a penalty?
Isn't the Video Ref only allowed to get involved if it goes on report?

So if the video ref can give a penalty for reviewing the play and seeing a foul take place, why not award a penalty against teams when it's obvious from the replay that a player has taken a dive?

Diving is cheating. What annoys me is they force the refs hand by staying down, it is not in the spirit of the game. What about those guys who groggily get up after a big hit and actually try to keep going even though they have been hit high.

Oh great, just another nobody calling a first grade rugby league player a 'cat'

Well no not really. If the referees could be counted on to catch every infringement maybe there wouldn't be any motivation to have a lie-down. Unfortunately between the poorly-made rules and the incompetent refs loads of legitimate penalties wouldn't be given if players didn't stay down.

It's not a good look and I'm sure the players don't enjoy doing it, but it's not really a surprising trend.

There is a difference between diving and staying down that people almost always fail to grasp.

'Diving' in sports like football (soccer) implies pretending there was contact with a defender in an effort to win a penalty. This is different to staying down, where there is minimal contact but the player makes the most of it. This is not a dive. It is a foul against the defender.

In Rugby League, how often does the bloke that gets hit high stay down if the referee immediately blows a penalty? In most cases, they're straight up and getting on with the game. This shows us that most of the time, these glancing high shots are not hurting players. If a referee is too inept to notice high contact, I see no problem with a player staying down to earn a penalty that they should have been given in the first place.

Who makes the definitions/distinctions? In football there are cases where there was minimal or innocuous contact, but are still called diving/simulation.

In Rugby League, it's all diving IMO. If a player feigns unconsciousness or injury where it does not exist - that's diving.
