Do we need Thurston?

Thurston is a great player but I would stick with KK and Mortimer. Thurston would kill our cap and we would lose some quality players becuase of his asking price.

Hayne, Mateo, INU, Mortimer, KK and FUI need to be re-signed asap.

It looks as though with the passage of time the answer to that question is an emphatic NO!! D Mortimer and K Keating will probably end up being gun halves, with J Robson a great backup for either of them.

How do we know Mortimer wont become better than thurston. his running game is brillant, plus his compusure under pressure (gets out of a tackle, has the footy brain to kick the ball forward for luke burt to score)

Mortimer and KK are the future.

Mortimer and KK are the future.

By the same token, how do we know he wont turn out to be a Willie Peters or Brett Seymore.

It took Scott Prince and Jonathan Thurston a long time to develop into top line halfbacks, atleast 3-4 years each. A halfback does not become a legend over night and we can not expect Mortimer to be anywhere near as good as JT any time soon, just as we cant expect Mannah to be Webke like in a year.

There is logic to going after a top line halfback since both KK and Mortimer are very inexperianced, but at $700K no-one is worth it. IMO we do need a backup halfback thou, someone like Robson or Head who can stand up if needed but why waste so much money when we have to skillful players we can develop for the future.

he went missing tonight when his team needed him, in the 2nd half he was no where when his team needed direction, Thurston can be a good player but is not consistant enough.

An asset to any side. But we don't NEED him so to speak. I'd rather spend the 500k he'd command elsewhere.
