Does anyone know (roughly) what the percentage of scrum wins against the feed are in union? Is it decreasing?

Look at the semi between france and england. Johnny Wankason kicked 8 goals or something to win the game.
France scored one try and england none by were still hammered!!!!!!!!!!!!
Union SUX
Yes, but that was ENGLAND! We all know thats how they play, all kicking. Anyway, it was played ing pouring rain aswell. Did you watch the other semi between Australia and New Zealand???? That was pretty low scoring but only because defence on both teams was incredably desperate!

I don't know about decreasing, but it's probably about 1 in 15 scrums I'd say... I've seen quite a few this year.

There are very few scrum wins against the head in rugby union. I would guess that there is less than 1 a game.

My reason for asking is that a big influence on the make-up of a union forward pack is scrummaging?

The mobility and build of forwards has a huge impact on the way the rest of the game is played.

It has a pretty big influence on the rest of the game for something that is such a low percentage play. I think that's why league has allowed them to become what they are. The improvement in mobility and speed at which the rest of the game is played is seen as more appealling than pushing in a few scrums where the outcome is fairly predictable

Rah Rahs must be respected as the game in which ours developed, and a game where guys who aren't good enough for league can be stars in the lower quality sport.....but in all seriousness it is ok.

my rant cam from the fact that i had big $$$ on France to win the whole thing.
Still, i would only sit thru a union game if i had $$$ on the game. Eitherwise i would rather watch Bocce, Lawn Bowls, or even Sailing!!

The problem with this line of reasoning is that the outcome of a good attacking or defensive scrum is not predictable of all. Even though the team with the loosehead wins the vast majority of feeds, the pressure that can be brought to bear by the other side can be massive.

Wheeling, crabbing, backrow moves, 8-man shoves etc. are all used by teams to gain a competitive edge.

If a team wins its own feed, but the halfback has to scrounge the ball from the back of a reversing scrum, the opportunities for his backs are severely limited. By the same token, if an attacking team can wheel its scrum at the right angle, and get a good shove, its backs have a bit more time and space before the breakaways can have an effect.

I know you think it's boring, but it's easily more exciting than any other team sport after League in my opinion. Did you forget NFL? You can hardly say rugby is boring with a sport like that floating around!

We can forgive the Kiwis for liking Yawnion, but the rest of you Aussies...

DISGACEFUL!

Have we also forgotten that Union is spawned by the work of Satan? It stands for everything evil in the world.

Tell me about it, I have interest in how NFL teams perform but I would rather watch Sesame Street reruns than watch the Final Quarter of an NFL game.......

What are you saying? That Darth Vader going to the light side is like a Union player (say, Ricky Stuart) converting to League?!?!?
If that were the case, then Sailor, Rogers and Tuqiri have all been taken over to the dark side!!! Personally however my favourate character was always the emperor :D :D :D

Absolutely NOTHING happens in NFL games, it's all bloody commercials and hyped up ego's! I was watching it on fox sports once and some player pulled off (to his credit) a really good tackle on the quarter back which lost them ground, that sort of thing happens in league all the time, but this dickhead got up after performing the tackle and started pointing to the sky, chest thumping and yelling "who da man!!!" at the top of his lungs! I was just like "f**k me! this has got to be one of the stupidest games ever invented!" Seriously, it was a good tackle, but if thats the most exiting thing they can do, well...

Didn't England beat Ireland in the WC 1/4 final after Ireland scored 3 tries to 1?

Bizarre.

No, Australia played Ireland in the Quarter Final...

No Australia played Ireland in the Pool and won 17-16....

The game I think he means was against Wales when Wales played very good and lost, Samoa as well

meh, I didn't watch it, I just recall a bit of a kerfuffle about it.

And it was Wales, not Ireland. They all look the same to me.

England 28 Wales 17

England: Tries - Greenwood. Conversion - Wilkinson. Penalty goals - Wilkinson (6). Drop goal - Wilkinson

Wales: Tries - Jones, Charvis, Williams. Conversion: Sweeney.

Unbelievable. One try to three and win by 11 points. #-o

This question is just a head count of Kiwis and Grammar School students at LU

I think union is slightly better than AFL if that means anything, because union requires some amount of skill, as miniscule as it is. But it's still a piss poor sport to watch.

Poor old UNion will always be Number 3 in Australian Football codes. 8)

I like American Football and Soccer but Union and AFL are a big steaming pile of POO.

f**k the Wallabies!
