Kurt Angle said:
Um, MCG would not qualify.
For the WC, the pithces also have to be rectangular.
FIFA allows Australia to break the rules by allowing WC qualifying matches to be held at the MCG. I also believe the rule is now 40-45,000 seat minimu, all seater.
That leaves:
Telstra Stadium
Aussie
Suncorp
Telstra Dome (with the seating moved in)
That's about it.
As long as this AFL plague dominates 3 big markets, we won't get a WC.
um, MCG would qualify
in Italy 90 and in Japan 2002 they played a lot of the games on fields with a running track seperating the ground from the stands, making them oval.
Such as this one in Osaka
and this one
and this one in Yokohama in which a semi final was played
even in Germany in 2006 they are using oval stadiums:
This is from the BBC website:
The one criticism that could be levelled at Germany's stadiums once they are all ready is that many will have running tracks around the pitch, thus putting the crowd at some distance from the action.
Otherwise, like the German bid as a whole, there will be very little to gripe about.
where are people getting this FIFA rule about 40 000 minimum, is it an actual rule or is it just an implied rule that FIFA would prefer stadiums over 40 000, cause i had a look at the stadiums Tunisia had listed in their bid and they had 3 stadiums that held only 20 000, which u can read here:

These are the stadiums france used in 98 that are UNDER 40 000
