Do you think fans who support artists from the start get ripped off?

I think in the modern day of the internet people who buy an album when its released should be able to enter a serial number or barcode and digitally download all the extras thrown at half hearted fans usually when they tour.

What im refering to is extra CD's full of extra songs marketed as 'special tour additions' to drum up extra sales but as the bands usually dont tour for a while after an albums release (to Aus anyway) those who supported the artists upon release miss out on some great stuff.

I have countless times bought my fav bands cds the day of release in anticipation of their music only to see people who sort of like the band, pick up a great extra cd when they tour and I drag them to a concert.

Also whats with the Japanese getting extra songs and discs?? I buy the album the same as them yet they always get an extra song and usually a bonus disc of live stuff or something.

I know im having a bit of a whinge but sometimes I feel like by supporting my fav artists from the start I get the worst deal....they almost encourage you to download there albums until the special edition comes out to boosts sales at a cheaper price and then buy.

Fair go to those who pay your bills....

Probably not ripped off, but definently not rewarded.
I agree completely with what you're saying as it has happened to me a few times

I know what you mean - the American release of Disturbed's "10,000 Fists" featured a hidden track that I did not get with my CD.

A few weeks later, a "special, limited" re-release came out, featuring a DVD of a concert they did as well as the bonus hidden track...WTF? I got jipped! :fist:

Maybe artists should give give out "Frequent Buyer" cards.

Every time you buy an album you get points
Every time you buy a t-shirt you get points
Every time you write "AC/DC rules OK" on your school bag you get points.

Then you can trade the points in for a poorly recorded live track on mp3

i see what you are saying...however real fans get rewarded in other ways. i've seen some stuff that i'll treasure forever that no bonus disc would ever compensate for.

I understand what you are saying but if you love the band that much, wouldnt you collect all they release?

Sydraider - No I would not buy the same album multiple times to get the extras that they didnt give me the first time, I have many other ways to spend my money. Maybe on a rare occasion but not generally.

I turn to the internet if they try to scam me for things ive already bought.

www.hmv.co.jp

You can load the pages in English, prices are competiveish and their shipping is super super fast.

When I bought the last 2Pac release (2 bonus tracks on the JP version not on the US/Australian version) I had the cd 3 days after the payment was charged to my card.

Year the "tour editions" have always annoyed me as well. However these days I usually just buy my music on iTunes so if extra track are released I can just d/l them for a couple of dollars so it doesn't bother me too much.

^^ np

If you plan ahead, you can usually find out what specific releases the artists are releasing in each region.

ie: An albums coming out you want and the JP version has 2-3 extra tracks, just buy straight from hmv jp rather than a local store. As i said, their shipping speed is nothing short of phenomenal, they almost always use some very fast form of registered post.
