Just because Arthur signed the players doesn't necessarily mean he made a mistake in doing so. You can't always predict players falling off a cliff performance wise or NRL rule changes making other players not as effective as previous years.

True. But when they go to shit you can always pretend that you knew all along.

Especially because some of these players (eg Vave, Matagi) filled an important need, but wouldn't bother with a one year deal...both had offers to remain at their clubs and for a single season most players will choose to do exactly that. So there's always a risk the second year will be one too many.

Yep.
Some people talk about how BA made a mistake in signing Foran, but at the time it was considered a magnificent coup.

Yep. Probably so but just maybe other clubs were aware of his issues and chose not to go there. We will never know I guess. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Considering the Bulldogs and Manly were also in contention for his signature, I doubt what you are saying.
With Des being the Dogs coach, and Manly being his then-current club, you would think that both would be well aware of any issues he may have had.

Matagi and Vave are both heading towards the ends of their careers you dopes. How can they be sustainable buys.

The same goes with Frichard, Williams, Gower, IDG, Soott ect all unsustainable purchases who may be ok for a year or two - but not club building purchases.

When are you people going to learn - ba didn't buy many players especially forwards that the club's future could be built upon. He mainly bought quick fix buys in order to prolong his coaching career and also not debuing many jnrs.

Nathan Brown took the riskier approach - blood jnrs, bide his time, wait for club building recruits - Ponga, Ese ese, Watson, Griffin ect. and many development players coming to fruition.

Newcastle now have a great foundation to build upon.

We are in total damage control with many old heads still on the books and minimal development players with fg experience

We barely have any "old heads" signed for next year, we only have 17 players officially contracted for next year so will have a lot of money to either re-sign players or buy new ones in.

Why/how would development players have first grade experience? Players on "development contracts" can't play first grade unless the club is given special dispensation.

It's because you and a few others have grown accustomed to being perennial loosers. You're afraid of success. You accept mediocrity.

The fact is Parramatta overachieve in 17 on the back of being stripped of points in the previous season, thus making the finals on pure emotion with an average team.

That emotion has naturally disappeared.

Now we're left with an average team who's pack is soundly outplayed, because the only decent forward ba has purchased in 5 years Nathan Brown.
