Read suggesting BA will be extended:

“Parramatta wanted to wait until after the finals to make a call on coach Brad Arthur’s future. The Eels wanted to see improvement and evidence that the squad was still responding to his coaching.
They wanted a reason to offer Arthur an extension beyond his existing contract, which expires at the end of next season. Parramatta may have fallen short against Penrith, but Arthur walked away with his reputation enhanced and an extension in his future.

The expectation is that Eels officials will look to get a deal done with Arthur sooner rather than later as they back their coach to take the next step in coming years.

Arthur’s future has been a burning topic of debate for much of the year given the Eels had fallen short on a number of occasions on his watch.

They fell short again against the Panthers, but the nature of the loss suggested the players are still buying what Arthur is selling. They had several calls go against them against Penrith and had hooker Reed Mahoney been fit to play, there is every chance Parramatta would have won anyway.

As it was, the side showed enough to suggest Parramatta has the right man in charge. Arthur is about to enter his ninth year at the helm and he will now be offered the chance to coach the side into a 10th season.

The Eels hinted at their satisfaction with Arthur in a letter to members from chair Sean McElduff and chief executive Jim Sarantinos this week that reviewed the season.

“There is a strong sense of pride in our team given the way they responded to a period of adversity in the latter part of the season, and the brave performance against Penrith in week two of the finals,” they wrote.

“While we fell short of our goal this season, the club has qualified for the finals in three successive years which is an achievement worth recognising.

“Our players and staff demonstrated a commitment to each other and the blue and gold jersey and a level of connection as a group that has us all looking forward with optimism to 2022.”

The Eels are unlikely to tinker with their squad much next season but there is room to make some changes the year after given the number of players who are off contract at the end of 2022.

Parramatta has resumed negotiations with some of those players and chances are it will lock them away in coming weeks as well as its looks to secure their futures before November 1, when other clubs and potentially an expansion side can start picking them off.

Mahoney is among the priorities given expansion looms on the horizon and the Dolphins — the team expected to win the bidding process — are keen to sign as many Queenslanders as possible.

Mahoney also hails from the Sunshine Coast, one of the areas that the Dolphins plan to use as a feeder for their NRL side. The Dolphins’ first priority will be one of Queensland’s guns — Cameron Munster, Kalyn Ponga or Harry Grant.

If they land Munster or Ponga, don’t be surprised if Mahoney is next cab off the rank. The Eels are aware and ready to put up a fight as they look to get an extension done before November 1.”

BA extended lol, i'll say it again the standards of this club are truly embarrassing.

What has he done to deserve an extension??? Another week 2 exit after winning about 3 from our last 9. So much for KPI's, and we've already done a review??? Really that was quick. We have absolutely no RL IQ by anyone on the board, then we have the fart sniffing CEO who was just parachuted into the job after being the Auditors rent boy. BA will be our longest ever serving coach bahahahaahahahaha!!! it's not about what's best for the football team it's whats best for the bottom line and the Leagues club.

Unfortunately there’s just no better options out there
For next year maybe, Robinson, Holbrook are off contract in 2023. Plus an up and coming coach's like Ryles and Ciraldo. BA has shown us after 8 years his limitations and that quite frankly he's not capable of making us a contender.

First time since 2007. Next step is back-to-back top four finishes, which we haven't done since 1999. These clubs have all managed it in the past decade:

Melbourne x 8
Easts x 5
Manly x 3
Souths x 3
North Queensland
Penrith

Interestingly the only premiers who didn't achieve consecutive top four finishes in the last ten years are the Sharks.

Robinson - zero chance, has a mortgage on the roosters job for another decade if he wants it. Politis won’t let him go.

Holbrook extended with Titans, isn’t available until 2025 season

Ryles & Ciraldo are entirely unknown quantities. Being a good assistant doesn’t mean you are a good head coach. Take Kearney as an example who is clearly a decent assistant as he’s just been extended again by Bellamy for 3 years.

our review isn’t done, the members email yesterday said it hasn’t even started yet, but regardless of the review, we need surety for 22/23 seasons if we want to retain any of our off contract players

Extension? Lol. That email indicates we are happy just making week 2 of the semi finals. If true, this merkin is going to be here for 10 plus years without ever making a prelim and people will be happy because we beat the Storm twice in the regular season in 2021. Has a coach in the history of full time professional rugby league ever held a coaching position for so long with such little success? Only at Parramatta. Do not extend him. Get Flanagan in FFS.

Hiney admitted that there probably aren't any options for 2022 and I could feel that his heart wasn't in the Jason Ryles suggestion.

If you accept that he should see out his contract then are you prepared to potentially write off 2022? Plenty on here have raised it as a risk for various reasons. Remember 2006?

Ignore the bullshit club email. Announcing an extension isn't really a reward for efforts to date as much as it is designed to ensure 2022 doesn't go tits up.

Extension aside, we can still sack the bald merkin if we dont perform in 2022. To quote my mate @TheRam if we get rid of the distractions around his contract then there should be no excuses in 2022.

Flanagan is an option for 2022.

And yes I am prepared to risk 2022 by telling him now that he won’t be extended beyond 2022. We won’t win anything with him anyway.

It looks like they might extend him for 2 years. That will be 11 years with only a spoon to his name. It’s f**king laughable.

11 years for a spoon winning coach who hasn't made a prelim after 8 seasons, only at Parramatta. But hey we have the most memberships so thats all that matters. Well they won't be getting my money next year and i'll be telling them why.

OK mate. Just giving you some potential reasons. You may not like them but there is logic behind it. Its not a reward as much as it is a risk management strategy.

Flanagan may be an option but clearly not one that they appear keen on. @Avenger and @emjaycee have previously provided some good intel as to why this might be the case.

Get behind the bald merkin, merkin.
