He's way too expensive now Gronky since he's found his game. The NRL is full of outstanding 5/8s and fullbacks that probably cost less than Bev would be on.
The one element Bev provides is speed and unfortunately our previous coach didn't value it until it was too late.
Is Preston Campbell and Trey Fuller any better than Bevan French and he apparently chased both of those albeit too late.
"The Panthers have dominated the competition for over four years now and appear to have done so without the need for speed, and that’s even more evident now that both Charlie Staines and Crichton have left the club.

Dylan Edwards, Daine Laurie and Izack Tago are among the quickest of them, without setting the world on fire."

Speed isn't as important as plenty of other characteristics. I'd say power is still more important than speed for outside backs. Look at Sivo. He's scored more tries than Khan-Pereira since the latter debuted in the NRL. As important as speed is in open space, most runs still involve a collision rather than streaking away untouched.

If French played NRL (at fullback) he would no doubt have his moments in attack, especially if he was playing for a strong team. But he would get manhandled on plenty of runs as well. Would he dig into the line and take the hit when the pass wasn't on? If he played at 6 he would miss so many tackles he'd be a genuine liability. This is why he's in the UK.
