i have never thought that it would work and the new 3 party rules will make it worse as teams like Brisbane for example can get better deals as they are a one team city.
They should bring back the old import rules, at least then we might keep some of our juniors......

the salary cap works for the the basic principle that clubs are still afloat. while some clubs like the Sharks and Knights are holding on without the salary cap they would have folded up long ago without it. the salary cap doesn't ensure that teams spend it wisely, it just means that they can't go over the top (without cheating).

it is , because the roosters were sh*t for like 5 years

Of course it works. But at the same time this year I'm getting kind of sick of the fact mediocre teams can make the top 4. Penrith and Wests weren't all that great this year but finished 2nd and 3rd. It's good to have a close comp, but sometimes I think it's too close we truly will never have outstanding sides any more.

We never would have had our sides of the early to mid 80's, thats for sure.

the only way it can work is if every team had access to the same third party sponsorship deals the broncos do the storm must be absolutely kicking themselves about this saying 'we could still keep all our players and its LEGAL!'

Take away the storm grand final appearances over the past 5 years and you'll likely find alot more different statistics there.
People can complain all they want about salary cap issues, particularly when their 'insert favourite player/s' gets ousted out of the club, but it's just about one of the only things holding the NRL together atm.
Though as EELiminator has said, it'd be alot more fair if NSW based clubs were able to secure just as much third party sponsorship as the QLD and Melbourne based clubs do.

So in 12 years there have been 12 different teams playing in the Grand Final????

Is there anybody who reads that and seriously thinks the salary cap is NOT working????

Only 4 teams have failed to play in a GF in just 12 years.... Was there a point to this thread that I'm missing somehow?

I agree....
I think he meant though that the Roosters, Storm and Broncos have all been their way more than other clubs.
But that doesn't matter as Storm cheated, Broncos had the super-coach Bennett and Roosters have played like sh*t for five years.
IMO the salary cap definitely works based on those stats :)

The salary cap's purpose is not the even the competition.

Having said that it doesn't work because using the actual salary without transparency is a recipe for corruption. Their needs to be a points system or a notional salary cap to stop teams hoarding all the talent but allowing club sponsors to help pay the players salaries.

That is true, I think we need to get rid of the third-party deals too; it will ruin the game, as the Broncos management have pointed out by saying basically "we can do it, so we will; we don't care if you can't" which is utter BS. It completely ruins it for teams like Cronulla, the Knights and the Panthers who don't have that sort of third-party stuff to throw around....
If Gallop has a brain, he has to do something about third-party payments; I think he has mentioned this year at some stage they will review that, which is a good sign.

Get rid of third party deals? Are you crazy? All the best players in the game will walk to other codes or overseas. It wouldn't even be legal to get rid of third party deals as they're not guarenteed by the clubs. Gallop can't say to players they're not allowed to have individual sponsors or work for other companies if they wish. If Jarryd Hayne or Greg Inglis do a deal to promote Nike, Nine pay Benji and Hindy to appear on the Footy Show, what right does the NRL have to stop them?????

This.
Plus if QLD had like 8 clubs up there, i'm pretty sure we'd see alot less third-party sponsor hogging from the Broncos.

I did not say to get rid of them AT ALL.

What I meant is, they need to be worked on because it allows teams like Brisbane to unfairly exploit the cap!!

Brisbane aren't exploiting the cap at all. If they help their players find third party deals with non sponsors then there's nothing wrong with that. Every club is at the same luxury and you cannot legally outlaw it. Brisbane having one side per the whole city is a huge advantage for the players as there are more third party deals available but you cannot blame the Broncos for taking advantage of that and you cannot stop them sourcing third party deals for their players because it is a restraint of trade to disallow players to sign a contract with a third party not associated with the club.
