Does Union like embarrassing itself?

I cant remember perfectly but the main one was obviously the difference in the peformance of the two sides. Don Furner also spoke about the fact that the average Brumby is in the wallabies and gets a stack of exposure while the Raiders dont have a rep player or many media personallities, which is what alot of the fans (as opposed to the supporter) go to the game to see.

But the other reason was that people will commit to a cheaper 5 or 6 game season ticket alot sooner then they will a 13 game one. The Raiders introduced some smaller packages this season and the sold well but as per usual they needed to be marketed better.

The weather was another factor.

I dont think it was mentioned but the ARU national marketing is tailored state by state, so the Brumbies get a high quality targeted promotional campaign for free on top of their own. Something the NRL should look at imo.

Even though the Brumbies have an easier time of it, im not taking anything away from their management. The Raiders are trying to copy some of the things they have done for a reason.

If Canberra people love union so much then why don't they support the Kookas? or their own club rugby?

Raiders = 12 home games

Brumbies = 6 over by May.

that kinda figures really, ACT being a union stronghold. Meninga who?

Well why wasn't the stand named after some Union nuffy?

It was a sign of respect for some ancient old game they use to play there.

It's still played there.

Well someone forgot to tell the people of Canberra. By the looks of it they either don't know about it, or they don't care for it. A bit of both maybe.

That total wasn't for 14 matches, Marcus.

Ok heres the official figures for both sides:

Canberra Raiders 2003 Home Crowds:
13744 v St George, Saturday
19372 v Canterbury, Saturday
13140 v Penrith, Saturday
12698 v Parramatta, Saturday
18136 v Brisbane, Sunday
11689 v Melbourne, Sunday
10363 v Wests Tigers, Saturday
9563 v Cronulla, Saturday
8074 v North Queensland, Saturday
8050 v Newcastle, Sunday
22813 v Sydney, Sunday
14094 v Melbourne, Friday
Total: 161736
Average Crowd: 13478

ACT Brumbies 2003 Home Crowds:
25279 v Crusaders, Friday
25122 v Waratahs, Friday
18154 v Chiefs, Sunday
20240 v Bulls, Saturday
18886 v Stormers, Friday
Total: 107681
Crowd Average: 21536

Lets make a couple of things clear. The Raiders played 12 home games at Bruce Stadium this year while the Brumbies played 5, not even half that of the Raiders. The Super 12 runs for 13 weeks while the NRL runs for 30 weeks, thats a BIG difference. Of course the Brumbies can get 20k out to 5 or 6 games a year, the challenge is whether they can do it over a full length season which is bloody doubtful. As usual Marcus your posts are soaked in bias and ignorance.

Also just to add to the previous post. The Raiders won their last competition in 1994, 9 years ago. The Brumbies won their last competition in 2001, 2 years ago. The Raiders have competed in no Grand Finals since 1994 while in that time the Brumbies have competed in 3 Super 12 Finals. People love to back a winner but next time you make your way out to Bruce Stadium, give Lauries statue a kiss and sit in the Meninga Stand and try to pretend that league no longer exists in the Nations capital  .

An excerpt From The Mirror article here

AUSTRALIAN Rugby League star Mal Meninga was banned from entering the main stand in Wales' clash with Italy in Canberra.

Officials claimed he did not have the right documents and barred him from entering...the Mal Meninga Stand.

That is just terrible if true.

I don't see what's so terrible about it to be honest. I doubt he was allowed in there at the Olympic soccer tournament either. Just because the stand is named in his honour doesn't mean he's allowed in there whenever he feels like it, no matter what the occasion. Any league game and he'd be fine, but why should they allow him in for the union, especially if he doesn't have a pass?

I have heard of Mal Practice and even Mal Coulston, but WTF is a Mal Meninga?

I have had a bit to do with figures and would have thought a person of even Iggy Plops limited understanding would have comprehended the meaning of attendence figures..ie the aggregate is the total through the gate over time NOT the number of seperate individuals. Average attendence is much more significant.

Well let's see the Brumbies play for a whole season then and see how they go.

People are just busting their guts to attend rugby union in Canberra after the super 12 aren't they?

Even when the Brumbies play a touring team the crowd is shizennhausen.

Raiders = more numbers in a year, much like league on the whole really.

Umm more games so more people! where as Brumbies get more to the crowd. What makes you think that the Brumbies couldnt pull in consistantly more people to their games than the Raiders ? everyone stated that there would be no crowds at the RWC, yet we are seeing more people turning up every game. Stop spouting crap iggy.
