Dogs Stripped of all points

With the Cowboys on 12 points theres no way the Doggies can surpass that mark but I've just heard on the telly that they may not be placed at the bottom as it will effect wooden spoon betting. I don't know how that'd work but the game shouldn't be governed to suit the TAB.

Sorry that should say the Rabbitohs are on 12 points. Also the doggies have been fined $500,000 which is pretty pathetic, they should be fined 100% of the breach.

The fne was reduced because of financial hardship on the club. They have to pay out players contracts to get under the cap next year and will lose significant funds on the Oasis. In all truth they will be very fortunate to stay afloat and higher fines would have resulted in their demise entirely. There is more at stake than just this year.

Oh, one other thing to note. The penalties handed down today were only for the first breaches admitted by the Dogs, that isthe 400K they admitted. If the later allegations by the SMH that it was actually doubleare substantiatedthen more penalties may be imposed.

I think the fine might of been kept down because the NRL didnt want to strain the relationship between the football club and leagues club too much. I read on another board that if the Dogs football club got too big a fine then the leagues club would look at dumping them all together.

Anyway, I agree with the punishment and the planned audits of other clubs andI think that the NRL has handled the whole thing much better then expected. Its easily the best they have handled a big issue in years, providing we dont have many more nasty suprises.

Its going to be a hell of a strange game on Sunday.

Well Gallop proved he is taking his position very seriously and he has given Rugby League the biggest shot in the arm in years with his decision today.

Not sure if many people realise this but if the Warriors win on Sunday they are sure to finish the year as minor premiers and play the side that will finish eighth. It also means barring a mishap the Sharks will now go from playing Newcastle at Marathon to playing the Roosters at Shark Park.

What can I say? It sucks, that granted. All I wanted to see was the best outcome for the Doggies and I suppose this is ok, but I think the fine should've been bigger and the points less. Why punish the players to a bigger extent when the management are at fault? Boggles the mind.

Cheers all,

The NRL didn't ;unish your players your management did.If your management hadn't been so greedy you wouldn't of had this roster of players to get where you were anyway.
Also the NRL would've punished 14 other clubs players and fans had they not made ths decision. Why should they be punished for the Dogs cheating?

Well, El Duque, in my opinion the game is about the players, and according to a player poll, more players want the Dogs in than out. Can't change it though. Ah well.

Cheers all,

The decision handed down today was not a punishment. The only part of it that could be construed to be would be the $500,000 fine.

The decision to strip the club of 37 points is only putting things right. It's like asking a robber who stole a Ferrari to simply return the car to its owner. That is not punishing the thief.

The Bulldogs effectively stole competition points. Those points have now been re-possessed.

Cheers.

Got out of it lightly I reckon.
Admittedly plaudits to Gallop for having some courage, but any other decision would have been the end of the game.
I still figure that the bastards should be relocated to Perth.
Loyal Bulldog,
Your whinge about the SMH on the other thread is just beautiful.Surely you can recognize the irony of your complaint.It goes something like this;
Fairfax does over the Bulldogs, who in turn had helped Murdoch do over rugby league.

Pepe. St George Illawarra finished 6th in a 17 team competition. Coming into the finals though they were looking very good things to win the Premiership. The first part of the year saw them struggling to get the St George and the Illawarra to gel. However once they did they were a dynamic side who going into the Grand Final were overwhelming favourites despite finishing 3 spots lower on the ladder.

Just keeping things in perspective.

Cheers.
