Don't just blame Jarrod Mullen, says Rick Stone

i think Henry has almost the opposite problem to Mullo, seems to think his shit doesn't stink... and possibly feels that he has already earned a spot in first grade. maybe even that it's his right to play first grade. i'll be interested to see how he does this week, it's going to be hard for him with the way the Titans are playing at the moment, though.

it's all in their heads, though. i'm sure that can be said for a great many failed first graders.

I'll let you know first hand.

BTW Henry played QCup for Burleigh last week and apart from one break, there was nothing to write home about.

As one of Newcastle's 'marquee' players his so-called best is certainly kept for rare occasions. I'd like to lay the blame on a forward pack that regularly fails to lay a decent platform and maybe that is true? However, Mullo has years of grade experience now (yes, I know he is still young) and he should be a much more consistent player. Take his kicking game away (which can be brilliant at times and ordinary at others) and what else does he offer?

Well He has shown on rare occasions he has a good running game with a bit of toe. And he would have to have one of the best left to right long balls in the game. IMO he doesnt use either often enough, which maybe because he is playing in the 7 instead of 5/8.

I agree. However I've highlighted the pertinent info you have provided which was what I was getting at. If he isn't using those things then what else does he offer?

First of all he isn't a halfback. I don't see why anyone could see him as a natural half. Can't organise something in a something (I think it was screw in a whorehouse) and his best attributes are his kicking game and running game. He cannot play a structured simple role like Hornby or Cronk. It's just not in him.

Play him wider at 2nd reciever (I know people are gonna say these days the halfback and 5/8th are the same blah blah blah) and he'll have more room to run the ball and won't be forced into playing an unnatural passing game. He should run the ball as often as he can and use his long passing game to get early ball to our centres. When we are deep in our half, Mullen should ALWAYS kick but on attacking kicks let Stig do half the work to.

We have amazing running halves who can play a great direct attacking game. We also have Gids and De Gois who are amazing at making metres out of dummy half and Aku who runs the ball back at a thousand miles and hour from kicks. Just run the opposition down with quick play of the balls and direct play. We try these fancy strucutred plays that we simply can't do.

We played some of our best footy under BSmith with Kidley running fowards at a thousand miles and hour for 80 minutes, not this garbage side to side stuff.

Don't know how I'd coach defence but I swear I'd be a much better attacking coach than that dude we have now...

He's a half... Just not a halfback.

Hopefully Bennett uses him as a running 5/8th. He can't organize, doesn't talk and seems very mentally weak.

He's had f**k all improvement in him in years. It's hard filling the Knights playmaking role when everyone expects another Johns, but Mullen couldn't be further from Johns if he tried.

Excellent point. He is Freddy I'm telling you guys... Been saying since he first came onto the scene... Why can't I coach the Knights (awaits at least 430948 replies by you guys outlining why I shouldn't be coach of the squad hahahaha):sarcasm:

Interesting to see that Henry has been named at 6 for the Tits this week.

I think both him and Mullo have to fix their mental game before anything else if either wants to step up their career.

I have to admit I am beggining to wonder RE Mullo if we've all got too higher expectations of him.

And looking forward to seeing Henry go around for the Tit's hope he carves up(except against us.)

I'll give you one reason why you can't be coach. You'd recruit SBW and make him captain of the Knights by 2014. And then we'd become the most hated club in the NRL and for once I wouldn't be in a position to argue otherwise.

Wooo i wouldn't make him captain. If i had to choose a captain other than Gidley it'd be Aku Uate!

RHCP, I'm actually from the future. I come from 2015 after the Knights have won the premiership 3 more times and SBW is our captain.

Agreed with some comments a few pages back. Wayne is Mullen's best chance to improve his consistency. If Mullen can't improve in the 4 years in which Wayne comes here, he never will. He would be 28 by that time as well...

Mullen just needs better players around him and to stop trying to do everything.
He isn't Johns, but he will be a very good player and probably get back into rep sides when he is just doing what he does best, which is play his own game and not worry about trying to carry the whole team.
