Doom, Gloom, and Frustration

Just to add my 2c...

I know that we're hurting, but consider this - the Panthers club history points to 2 golden periods (1989-1991, and 2003-2004), which obviously yielded results that went into the last 1-2 weeks of the season, and got us 2 premierships.

But the years preceding those periods were pretty ordinary, generally finishing at the bottom end of the ladder. But also during those periods, we were lucky to have a bumper crop of juniors, who over time started to get a run in first grade, and developed their careers. Look at the 2003-2004 period as an example. We all know that 2001 and 2002 were a pain, but in that time the following made their debuts - Lewis, Rooney, Waterhouse, Clinton, Swain and Rodney. All local juniors. Of course it was complimented by having a number of players who had been around a while (Gower, Puletua and Girdler), plus players who were signed (such Priddis and Campbell). And all of them got a premiership ring in 2003.

I think we're going through a similar period at the moment. From all reports, we are currently experiencing a bumper crop from Toyota Cup down to Harold Matts, which is going to filter through over the next few years. Some have already made their debuts, such as Austin and Siejka. We have a core of players who have been around for a while, such as Lewis, Jennings, Grant and Gordon (if we re-sign him). And the the complimentary outside experienced players? We've made a good start with Lewis Brown coming in 2013. More will come as the salary cap pressures get eased in the next 1-2 seasons.

Gus has publicly stated a number of times that the club will have to go through a couple of seasons of pain, but in the long term we'll be doing great. This season so far, particularly the last month has been testing. But this is the time when we must not throw in the towel - this is a time when the club needs our support in shovel loads. Good things come to those who wait... I have faith in Gus and Cleary to fix the problems that were allowed to fester over the past 5 or so years. Touch wood, we will all be basking in the reflected glory of success from around 2014-2015. Just be patient for now!

Well said Roo. I think there was a lot of good signs to come out of that game last night e.g. Austin seems to be progressing nicely, wingers showed signs of better to come, no lack of effort across the field. I just think we need improvement in the centres and back row. We seem to have some good young ones coming up to fill these gaps but we can't rush them. Next year will be our year.

Penrith Need a clean out. Id get rid of there whole back line other than Coote and Jennings. Gould will do this. He will get players to the club, and get players to the club without paying overs for them.

i am not sure the backs are the problem we have a lot of talented players through windsor and u20 and juniors .The forwards are the concern thats where we clearly needd to change the identifacation of talent

Newton ciraldo galea all average only 40 meteres a game. You just can not get a platform of that.i would to prefer to not go into the market rather than buy players with no impact when tackled.Keep the money for a good impact runner

See our backs & Halves get targetted some what unfairly. Yet the backrow is more a concern. Mansour & Uaisele showed we have good backs at the club. Austin showed the halves have promise. We just need backrowers there a few that show promise but we need them to step up when they get a chance.

Sounds like Cleary isn't happy at all with Jennings, i think he hooked him last night as per footy show interview

bit unfair blaiming jennings he normally recieves the ball with tacklers right on him.If we got a roll on up front he would have room to move.As for going public with his concerns very average to say the least

He wasn't right. You could tell. He should never have taken the field.

Whoever the medical staff member who told Ivan that he was right to go...need their head checked.

He looked uncomfortable all game.

Our issue is our backrow. I think everyone recognises that.

When you lack an edge on the fringe and you are averaging 5m a hitup that isn't good enough.

Ciraldo may tackle his heart out but he offers absolutely zero in attack. I counted 5 times when he carried the ball when we had momentum close to the line...that soon as he touched the ball...everyone went flat footed...wasted time and totally crushed our momentum.

Galea just isn't working. Our bench configuration lacks size and it is showing on the field.

Clint Newton needs a couple of weeks in Windsor to send a message.

To me the best bench configuration would be:
14. Utility, 15. Specialist Prop, 16. Hybrid Prop capable of playing backrow, 17. Hybrid Backrow

With our current troops we have available:
14. Travis Burns, 15. Dayne Weston, 16. Mitch Achurch, 17. Ryan Simpkins with Matt Robinson as emergency

With a starting forward pack of:
8. Sam McKendry
9. Kevin Kingston
10. Tim Grant
11. Cameron Ciraldo
12. Jesse Sene-Lafao
13. Luke Lewis

Ciraldo will be out when Smith/Plum get back.

Gives us a better balance. Gives us a better balance on the bench and provides some impact off the bench.

Get it done.

Well he's the d!ckhead that played him. He looked 70% fit at best. Couldn't tackle or pass. After he was tackled he dropped. It was no shock every break was made down that side. He was injured. Mansour on debut. Austin a rookie. Any coach would go down that side.

well, to be a panther supporter you have to have a big heart and not easily upset.been following since they came in,seen the bitter lows and the highs, been kicked out of belmore with my 6 brothers when we were making too much noise playing parra and
flogging them.cleary and gould said from the start not to expect much ,we were 18 months away from re-building the side into a competitive unit so after 9 games people want to jump ship? I remember in 2003 when we lost the first few games and then went on to blitz the comp and all the (supporters) climbing on the bandwagon.
Bet a lot of them aren't around now and will come back when we are winning again
instead of supporting the team through the bad times as well.
Anyway see you at the ground against the saints.
