Double Standards?

Call me crazy, but over the last few years Thurston seems to be able to get off without punishment for talking to the ref's like sh*t.
This was evident in the NQ / Manly game after the pass was called back for being forward (note: we are not here to debate the legitimacy of the pass).

After that he spat it and dropped the F bomb quiet a few times and said to the ref "you cost us the game".
Bill Harrigan sent players to the sin bin and sent them off for such remarks.
Now there is nothing that says Robinson has to take that stance, BUT, he is supposed to enforce the rules equally.
In letting Thurston get away with basically leveling ever insult under the sun at him and not less than 2 minutes later marching NQ up field for taking offence to a Manly player using the f bomb ONCE (as opposed to the 10 or 11 times JT did) he has not enforced the rules equally.

Normally you'd say the issue lies with the ref, but JT seems to be allowed to talk to the ref's like sh*t and act like a generally arogant prick without penalty, most players get penalised for touching / swearing at the ref (JT has done both in the last few years) and throwing the ball away in a sign of disrespect (lost count of that one.......) yet he seems to lead a charmed existence.

Can someone tell me why?

It's disgusting. Thurston shuld have been sent for 10 at least. Ryles got 10 for saying less.
It shows when a referee loses complete control of a game when a player can walk all over him and get away with language like that. It also influences a referee to favour a team. Such as Saturday night just after Thurston blew up at the ref the Cowboys conveniently get a penalty.
This is what happens when you have a sh*t batch of refs. I couldn't see Harrigan, Mander, Clark, Simpkins or Hampstead putting up with being talked to like that.

Normally I'd agree completely, however that was such a quality tantrum that I find it hard to be outraged. Hell, I even think the ref was holding back a smirk while JT was stamping his feet and carrying on like a douche.

THE NRL will decide today whether to charge or reprimand Johnathan Thurston for dropping the F-word five times in an expletive-laden rant against referee Jason Robinson.
Thurston also sarcastically claimed Robinson should be named man of the match.
Onfield microphones picked up the halfback's foul language when he lost his temper over a forward pass in the dying stages of his side's 24-20 loss to Manly in Townsville on Saturday night.
The Cowboys made a break but Robinson brought play back on the advice of a touch judge, who correctly ruled the final pass was forward.
Thurston's frustration came from the fact Robinson blew his whistle three to four seconds after the pass was thrown. Their exchange went like this:
Thurston: "F ... ing hell, the touchie is running with it."
Robinson: "The pass was forward. It took me a while to get the information to make a decision
Thurston: "Took a while for f ... sake. You should get man of the match."
ABC Radio apologised to its listeners after the incident went to air.
NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley said the Thurston outburst would be reviewed today.
"Like any onfield incident, it's open to the match review committee to look at," he said. "Beyond that, I can't make any further comment."

Current threads discussing Thurston is a whinger: 2

increasing at a rate of one a day since the match. By the end of the week, incredibly important matters such as 'is Israel Folau's tooth fake' will be pushed to the bottom of the page.

Thurston = protected species. Was it last year or the year before that he kicked David Williams square in the face and walked away like the NRL's love child ?

I wasn't that miffed by this one but he has been guilty many times in the past and nothing ever happens.

He either is a protected species or he is very adept at walking a fine line

He marched the Manly player 10m for backchat and swearing AT him because he knows he cost the Cowboys the game (yes, i understand we blew plenty of our own chances aswell).
The NRL wont do anything except drop Robinson for a week for that disgusting display of "refereeing". The Cows are having a hard enough time winning games this season, we shouldnt need to have to overcome the opposition and the officials too. Manly are the most penalised team in the NRL yet only conceeded 1 penalty in the first 60+ minutes of the game.

Normally id agree that Thurstons outburst was out of line, but not in this particular case.

The Cowboys are the most frustrating team to watch. They do so many frustrating things during a game. Maybe Thurston should've signed with another club to ease his obvious frustrations.

So much for Neil Henry being a super coach.

Ref knew JT was right...

If the ref thought the pass was ok why'd he call it?

Touchies and the 2nd ref don't have the ability to stop play, and refs regularly ignore the advice of the other officials if they see it differently

Thurston should play for QLD and Australia only, as he is a complete hack when it comes to Cowboys games.

Johns got two weeks for something similar in 2006. Ironically that was against Manly too

Ref knew JT was right...
 Please, the pass was a metre forward.

Come on Didgi, if Thurston doesn't carry on like a petulent little child, there isn't any thread.

He marched the Manly player 10m for backchat and swearing AT him because he knows he cost the Cowboys the game (yes, i understand we blew plenty of our own chances aswell).

 Are you serious? Robinson didn't cost you the game, the pass was forward and if you hadn't have bombed those four tries, you wouldn't have been in a position to be blowing up about a pass that wasn't forward that was.

Thurston's attitude is something that has been in question for a while. Think back to earlier in the second half when he missed the conversion from the sideline - swearing his mouth off and chucking waterbottles...

... The guy is the biggest sook in the game.

Please, you're going to whinge about the penalties. The count was 3-1 against the Cowboys in the 1st half (one of those was Thurston kicking it dead on the full from a kick off) and 2-1 against Manly in the 2nd half. Just because we are the most penalised team in the comp, it doesn't mean you just automatically receive unwarranted penalties. The fact that Perry and Matai weren't playing probably helped our cause in that department.

Also that pass looked forward on the replays and was called that way by one of the officials. Just because the call came from the far touchie it doesn't mean it was wrong. The closest touchie was about 2 metres behind the ball passer and not in a good position, and one of the refs actually looked up at the touchie after the pass, looking like he thought it was suspect.

If you want to blame anyone, try blaming your team who cannot win with all their big guns playing (and only 1 backing up from origin) at home against a side missing B. Stewart, D. Williams, Foran, Perry and Matai along with having 3 players backing up from origin and losing one of those in Lyon for half the match. On top of that several players were quarantined during the week with a virus.

Despite these 2nd half collapses being a real worry for Manly, it was a gutsy win considering what we were up against. If the Cowboys showed as much heart to go along with the undoubtable talent within the side maybe they wouldn't be where they are on the table.
