Anybody else seen this? I saw that it was up for a number of acting nominations and, having seen it, I can see why. Meryl Streep is infuriating and passionate; Hoffman is powerful; and even Amy Adams manages a powerful performance.

Having seen it, I'm less certain of Ledger winning a supporting actor nod. Hoffman is, as always, flawless.

I have seen it and enjoyed it immensley.

Meryl Streep still manages to be breathtakingly good, even though we should know by now to expect nothing less.

I still don't understand how PSH gets a "support" nod. Seems a bit of a stretch for mine.

It didn't "fizzle" at all.

It wasn't the traditional story arc, by any stretch (in that arguably, the third act is what happens after you leave the cinema) but that's what is so fantastic about it.

Personally, I'm sick of being spoon fed. This film was so refreshing, for that reason.

Exactly my thoughts. I like that I was left to decide on my own whether or not he was guilty; whether or not she was a bad person; and whether or not she was 'doubting' her decision or doubting a Church that promotes someone accused of pedophilia.

**possible spoilers*

i mean i expected it to really lift after the second confrontation between streeps character and hoffmans. I thought something was going to be revealed...maybe a court case, maybe the kid was going to have his say. dont get me wrong i dont particularly like films that "spoon feed" me, i do like films that arent "traditional" in the sense of how its constructed and told. i did like the film...i just got the feeling that it was building to something bigger and then it was like "oh no he moved on its upto you to figure out if he was guilty or not". we dont find out anymore about the kid...i would have liked to hear something from the kid.

but either way i still liked it the acting is superb...i guess i just expected more.

I finally saw this, I enjoyed it.

Amy Adams is a very capable actress (see Junebug for another great performance by her).

In the play, you don't actually see Donald, for instance.

True, but plays have that restriction in them. A movie with a big budget and the ability to cut seemlessly, can generally tell a story more completely overall - although generally less completely on a personal or emotional level as a result.

Amy Adams is a very capable actress (see Junebug for another great performance by her).

I didn't mean to deride her abilities. Even in Enchanted she does what she has to. I should have said that she looked good alongside two legends in the business.
