I have read its been reported that Shane Flanagan will have to leave the Dragons if Anthony Griffin becomes coach. I'm not sure if that will eventuate though.

The Dragons first choice was Craig Fitzgibbon but the Dragons apparently botched it. I wouldn't be surprised if they wait in the wings to see if he is around in the future if Griffin doesn't pan out.

The problem for the Dragons is they botched their attempt to sign their preferred option: Roosters assistant coach Craig Fitzgibbon.

The son of inaugural Illawarra coach Allan Fitzgibbon, the 43-year-old last month knocked back a three-year, $2 million approach from the Dragons.

That approach angered Roosters chairman Nick Politis because it was done behind his back.

Having failed at the first attempt, the Dragons then tried to go through the front door with WIN Corp's board appointee Andrew Lancaster meeting with Politis.


Again, they failed.

Fitzgibbon is contracted to the Roosters next year and has assured Politis and coach Trent Robinson he won’t be asking for a release because he is a “man of his word”.

It was a waste of time because Fitzgibbon has confided in others that he isn’t interested in joining the Dragons in its current state and is loyal to the Roosters.

He was being facetious.

The only coach you'd give 5 years to without a second thought would be Bellamy. Robbo has the best team ever, bellamy has proven his worth getting the best out of no-name forwards and his scouting team is second to none.

Coaches and players have too much leverage imo, coaches who have underwhelmed should just be given rolling one year contracts.

the man has the personality of a plain cardboard box.

I'll never forget his expert commentary in a few games on fox. The most dull, monotone voice in what is meant to be an entertainment program.

Dare I say it, I actually quite like Hook - Granted his voice makes him sound as dull as dishwater, but he comes across as a thoroughly decent bloke. Clearly doesn’t take any shit - gave Moylan the arse when he was playing up, stood up to Gould and wouldn’t be bullied and just generally comes across as a straightforward stand-up bloke. The fact he’s made Webster have a little hissy fit makes me like him even more.
That being said, I hope he royally screws the Dragons over and makes them even less competitive for years to come!

For all we know the "review" with Gus was subterfuge to get Griffin the job and give Saints the ole trojan horse, because they sure look like they are on the up :rolling_eyes:
