The regular baiting exercise about who provides the juniors is just jealousy. But unfortunately this trolling does contribute to the spread of misinformation.
Apart from it lacking facts, the claim forgets that the Dragons joint venture are one team. The Steelers were going to fold and St George provided the money to the joint venture - much of this went into junior development. I didn't see Canberra or any other club with enough coin to make a difference in 1998/99. But I bet other clubs would have carved up the Illawarra if given the chance. The joint venture ensured a long term rugby league nursery in the Illawarra, and nurturing junior development in the Illawarra benefits the entire game. The NRL would be the poorer if not for it.
