Fulton is on Mario tartaks books, we already bend at the knee to tartak don't need Fulton too. Also missing POS isn't that bad we still got some of the best junior talent to the club anyway. More about big recruits who Flano will eventually get anyway
Correct. It’s easier to fix a roster / salary cap than land the big names . We missed him because of the more attractive job at hand vs what the Dragons wanted from him .
no big deal. He specialises in finding young talent and salary cap. He knows Flanno is all over that stuff already

He would be great in the R&R role but Saints have buckley's of making that happen. If they show interest it will just alert another club needing a R&R guy and they will get him across.

Ryles seems to be going hard for the Eels role. Goes to show he did not like what he saw at the Dragons with regards to the squad, R&R and management. He saw the writing on the wall that they will fail to attract any players and that management are useless in getting things done and did not want his career to suffer. Flanno was just looking at any opportunity to get into an NRL Head coaching role. Saints were lucky nobody else showed interest in Flanno.

Yes the trend of a lot of ex players doing assistant coaching gigs like Fitzgibbon, Ryles, Barrett, and some ex coaches like Nathan Brown, and even Ben Hornby, The Morris boys - not likely wanting to come back to the Dragons in any capacity. Would Dean Young be bothered if his Dad wasn't involved with the club? Then you have guys like Matt Cooper wanting to help out but not wanted.

They know what the club is like and if they can land a job elsewhere that would be their preference.

Recruitment guru is a must but nobody great will come. It is such a shame but that is the clubs problem to sort out.

At my late stage of my life I'm not likely to see the big and mighty Red V shine high in the NRL because while we are putting lots of hope on Flanno to achieve better results, somethings seem to hold us back big time.

Chin up mate I do feel the same way particularly after losses like last weekend but I am still on the Flanno bus & he will continue to improve this club. Unfortunately I didn’t have the same confidence in the people behind him who have failed us over a number of years but Flanno is a relentless & stubborn bugger & I think he will succeed eventually. Whilst I support Flanno you cant turn this club around from a mess with the incompetent coaches we have had over the past 10yrs. Whilst we both may not see a premiership I think we will see a very competitive & consistent side in near future.

Kyle Stanley looks like he's got a future IMO.

Thats a Champion SG Ball team he put together from all over.
Agree, that was my point in my previous post let’s see who we have within that have the capability & attributes to be developed in the position. In my working life I always looked within to see if I had someone I could develop into a position rather than pay overs for someone outside the organization.

Nothing will change until they get rid of the deadwoods on the board.
these people are ruining the club,

I keep hearing it stated that the board is dysfunctional or just plain bad, but does anybody actually know what decisions our Board is responsible for? We‘ve had some poor coaches that‘s for sure and progress on the CoE has been slow. What else?
What do supporters actually want the Board to do?
If the Board was spilled completely, then what?

It's a good question. My bottom line is that this club with its rich history, its marketability and potential for sponsorship (the big red vee), its huge area for juniors (encompassing part of Sydney, all of Wollongong, and the entire South Coast of NSW) - with all that we should be doing a lot better than we are. And yet we're languishing on the cusp of irrelevance, playing out of second rate stadiums, often losing out on major signings and generally finishing around 12th on the table.

You mentioned coaches (which the Board presumably had to sign off on) and the centre of excellence (government funding was available for clubs in 2017, yet we're only doing it now after most other clubs have got one). There is also the finances, which according to Webb at last years members meeting had been running at a deficit for several years, with 2022 apparently the first year in some time they finished with a surplus. Then there's the matter of the Board signing off on a deal to sell to WIN when Paul Smith reportedly had tabled a better offer. So from this outsider looking in, the Board have had a number of opportunities to make a positive difference and for whatever reason they have made what looks like the wrong decision. Whether that's because the Board members can't agree, or they aren't forward thinking enough, or some other reason, I can't say.

I have very little experience of dealing with Boards but they make a hell of a difference to an organisation. In the worst case, they can ruin it. I remember reading an interview with the CEO of Ansett before they went bankrupt. His comment was he went to the Board six times with six different plans to save the company, and each plan was knocked back by the Board. So in answer to your second last question I want a competent Board who are forward thinking, have the best interest of the club front and centre, and at least some members with backgrounds in sports administration and management, not just old boys, ex-sponsors, and the off-spring of part-owners. I'm hoping the fact that our Board at least tried to get Ryles, did get Flanno, and finally decided to proceed with a Centre of Excellence shows they are trying to move forward.

Yep Buckleys correct. Has openly told his mates he moved to QLD for a reason and intends to stay up there

Gould is given carte blanche at Dogs, and was at Penrith. We need a similar head of football role with similar power. It must not be left to the coach. Coaches make decisions to win the next game. They are natuarlly myopic. The head of football does things today that make the club better in 5-10-20 years.

It's unfair to judge Haran for the state the club is in as he has a very limited role.
Move on:
Webb, Haran, Millard, and Millward.

Hire
A professional CEO
Richardson as GM Football
N Brown as Recritment/Retention Manager

Because two people can control one side of the board and one half of the board can limit the club we are screwed.

Doust and Piggott ... there is your problem. The control the St George side of things and because of the way we are set up we cannot move forward.

When it comes to the management and admin of the ‘club’, my blood boils too. We are too reliant on Flanno, and I am on the Flanno bus too, but I suspect Flanno’s Achilles heel is in ability to attract talent. He does not appear to have the same draw as someone straight out of an elite system (Ciraldo, Webster, Fitzgibbon). But the club could do wonders to make the task easier for him. Regardless of the JV structure, the board needs talented independent reps, as someone above suggested. We need a charismatic, inspiring and hands-on Chairman who bleeds the RedV (who?) and can play a Politis-like role in talent acquisition. I am non-plussed with Webb, but he fits the mould of many ‘club’ CEOs. We need a seasoned head of football. Not a pretender and not someone new to the role, but someone who has done this before and has the respect of the NRL. Any elite NRL club and most others (e.g. Newcastle; Parr) have this role set. The structure and reporting lines need to be set right, with a view to our particular strengths and weaknesses (dual locations and 2 systems are likely both), and then (and only then) should we get onto filling roles like recruitment, pathways etc. It’s far from hard to get this right: there are so many precedents. But until we do, STGI will languish well below the better teams.
