Here's the link, just in case you want the whole story.

Here's the jist though........

Two months later, rejuvenated and enjoying the game, he has his best chance of fulfilling a passionate ambition of playing State of Origin for NSW.

"The fire has returned and I am really enjoying my footy. I used this as motivation. If you put in you reap the rewards," he said.

Thompson was the stand-out forward for the Dragons against the much-vaunted Sydney Roosters pack last Sunday. Although the Dragons lost 11-8, Thompson was relentless in attack and headed his team's tackle count.

His performance impressed NSW coach Phil Gould, who stopped Thompson as he was leaving Aussie Stadium to congratulate him.

He was reticent to divulge the thrust of the conversation but his club coach Nathan Brown, who has worked with Gould in past NSW campaigns, acknowledges Thompson has the quality to play Origin.

"I know how much Lance wants it," Brown said. "I hope he gets there. I can't fault his attitude now. Gus (Gould) knows the type of player who wins at Origin level and it's not always the best players that form winning teams.

"You have got to get a balance and Lance would fit in perfectly."

Thompson, who played City Origin in 2001 and last year, is a near-certain selection in Graham's Murray team this season, to be announced on Sunday. The annual Origin trial is played tomorrow week.

Raper need only remind them of 256 missed tackles so far this season. The highest according to todays telegraph. 8 more than Manly. 68 more than Saints.

It will be interesting to see if Phil does pick him after that glowing endorsement.
