Dragons Squad June 30 Deadline

Yeah, News Corp sold off the interest in the Storm 6 years ago..

They’re going pretty good without their assistance, wouldn’t you say?

And of course News Corp wouldn’t be assisting Melbourne with TPA’s would it?

Wake up and smell the roses please Muz.

You don’t have to own a team to support it financially and politically.

AFL is a giant in Victoria and the Storm is a pimple on an elephants arse. Yet they can afford the best players.

Enough said

Lol..

Yes, I believe St George would have folded.

As would have the Steelers.

It’s not an outlandish claim at all. This is why we have a Joint Venture today.

The chairman of St George at the time said the very same thing.

Are you disputing him too?

I still haven’t seen anything to say that St George would have made it alone... If so, why were they looking for suitors?

Feel free to try and convince me otherwise, I’m a logical guy who loves facts.. But at the moment it’s just opinions coming from your side..

Poor argument Muz

Try again please.

Just because the chairman thought it was prudent doesn’t mean Saints could not have survived alone.

It’s akin to saying Muz has an opinion and therefore the opinion must Ben correct.

The idea was to create a super club.

The idea has clearly failed.

Possibly so... But how is that even remotely relevant to keeping an extra team in Sydney?

If a Sydney club looks like folding, the support won’t be there from the NRL.. They’ll just shift the licence to Perth, Adelaide, PNG, Tonga etc..

And you’d have to say whilst it’s a nuisance to travel to Wollongong to watch the old St George team play home games, it’s probably better than having to go overseas to watch home games..?

No?

My point is if the NRL wanted to better target Pacific Islander support living in Australia, having their own teams would strongly appeal to them.

It’s taken you over a day to come up with that?

The chairman of a club would have far more insight into the financials and future position of a club than some random folk on an Internet forum..

If I recall correctly Johnny Raper at the time also admitted the only way to survive was to merge..

Interesting.. So newscorp own the herald sun, yet hardly feature anything about the storm.. Is that how they support them?

You’ll find it’s the benefit of being the only team in town which helps the storm..

It’s why they always have strong membership numbers (i can’t recall the last time the dragons had more members than the storm).. Unless newscorp are buying the memberships for the fans...??

And they achieve a high number of TPAs as they don’t have to compete with as many clubs for competition..

Face it, they’re a well run club.. It’s got nothing to do with their former owners now..

Wait up. Name me one high profile player the Storm have bought from another club.
They have the best coach in the game and he, and the club, do a spectacular job developing players.

I hate the Storm but there’s no denying it’s the best run club by a country mile.

As soon as Bellamy departs the Storm, they will go backwards, and since Victoria isnt an NRL stronghold they will give up on them especially if they have a period of 5+ years of finishing out of the 8..

Rubbish..

Melbourne is set to become the largest city in Australia..

To say the NRL would walk away from that kind of market opportunity is quite insular thinking..

Haven’t been following the forum closely as I am currently overseas.

Felt compelled to respond to your dribble once I saw it.

Sometimes your input has merit.

More often than not your “facts” are plucked out selectively to support your opinion and agenda.

Keep it up as it is often a source of amusement and or controversy.

What agenda?

St George would have folded without the JV.

The club themselves admitted it at the time.

So far no-one has been able to show anything to prove otherwise..

Point is they were able to remain under the cap whilst playing Cronk, Slater, Smith, Munster and Bromwich year after year.

Bellamy is a good coach and attracts average footballers for unders.

The stars are heavily subsidised by TPA’s in a market with limited penetration.

Their recruitment team is heavily concentrated in QLD, not Victoria.

No junior base of their own but lots of corporate support.

That’s not evidence of News Ltd propping them up..

That’s the sign of a well run club..

Storm AREN’T a club I look at as salary cap rorters. All of these you mentioned have been developed from within.

Yes. Correct.

I wish the Dragons did the same.

Their recruitment team is heavily concentrated in QLD, not Victoria.

Yep and yep.

Smart aren’t they.

Pretty obvious to me that's the last position in a squad won't come from outside the club. Who will it be, I'm guessing someone from today's CC game will be promoted by tomorrow.

I'm tipping Saab to take the 30th spot in our NRL squad.
