Dreaming

I know. I know. It's not gunna happen, but it could've and really, should've.

I was reading an article this morning about Preston Campbell and how Mal Meninga and Brett Kennt reckon that he is, at this point in time playing well enough to be included in the NSW SOO side.

Weeeeelll,

Imagine if you will if he was still a Sharkie - Noddy at half, Preston at 5/8, Peach at fullback, Merrit and Reick on the wings with Vagana in the centres. I feel like Homer J. The drool is running.

But it's only a dream......................... ;-)

Sing to the tune of `Merrily We Roll Along':
`Preston is a Panther now, Panther now, Panther now,
Preston is a Panther now, oh de doo dah day'

Second verse:
`Preston is a Panther now, Panther now, Panther now,
etc, etc, etc.'

Not much use crying over spilt milk, is there? I hope Campbell get's a go but I think Scott Hill and Noddy would be better together. If Bennett does go with Gower then Preston would go better. As long as Barrett doesn't get automatic selection.

Come October 2004 I'll have this conversation with Sludge:

Me - "How much did it cost to put that squad together"

Sludge - "3.5 million a year"

Me - "Just paid for itself!"

I gave up dreaming about a Sharks premiership as year after year my dreams continually turned to nightmares: e.g.
1978 Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarghhh!
1999 Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarghhh!
2003 Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarghhh! (different reason to the other 2)
For about 20 years I used to book a holiday day off after the Grand Final to get over my premiership celebrations. Never happened.
These days I go to the ground not expecting a premiership and hopefully one day they'll surprise me.
Gee they were carefree days at Sutho Oval when we buy our cans from the beer tent and be happy if we scored a try. Not like 2 weeks ago against the Dogs when a man was a jibbering and angry wreck after the game.

Imagine this team if we kept a few players:

1. Peachey (c)
2. M.Rogers
3. Vagana
4. Mellor
5. Best
6. Campbell
7. Kimmorley
13. Hilder
12. Nutley
11. McKenna
10. Lang
9. Treister
8. Stevens
Interchange
14. Lomu
15. Beattie
16. Sullivan
17. Galloway

Oh yeah!

Best had alot of potential and is doing fairly well with Hull over in the UK. And I'd certainly rather have him over some of the other hacks we've experienced in recent times like Ando Jr, Milford, Youngquest...

Besty was & still is a very good player.

We've seen Reick have 2 or 3 good games across 3 seasons. Merrit? 10 mins. Who else?
best was a proven performer & played very well if not better than the best in the NRL most of times.
his speed is fantastic. & he had a good bit of mongrel in him too.
