On Zero Tackle Dugan is reported to be on $800,000 pa. So they appear to have offered him $700,000. Doust will stuff up the offer just as he did with Bird, Merrin and Morris and numerous others for the sake of $50,000-$100,000.

As I said last week when you start talking in the millions (Hunt) everyone now wants overs.........unfortunately thats the nature of business now ....the days of player longevity at clubs is dissapearing fast ...with player movement so rife now only clubs- that get lucrative TPD can retain their top liners and will stay competative year after year.......or teams like Brisbane & Melbourne that are the only team in town

I'm always interested in this talk of the spine and the money they should earn compared to others.
Jarrod Crocker what is he worth to Canberra supposedly less than spine money?
All the power houses playing in the 13 jumper for various clubs are they on less than spine money?
GI if he plays centre whats' he worth?
Dylan Walker at Manly what's he worth?
Lots of key players at different clubs are going to get big $$$$ regardless of not playing in a jersey nominated as "spine".
You pay the player on his performance and what he brings to your club and that shouldn't necessarily be restrictive due to the number on your back.
In relation to Dugan he is worth plenty to us and you will regret it when he isn't in the big red v.

After reading your well considered thoughts, I'm had flashbacks to when Brett Morris departed the club.

"Oh, but he's not a fullback", some people moaned.

Performance and "what he brings to the club" are the key elements here.

Would be a shame if he did walk , as he is certainly a class player and does put the effort in on a weekly basis. With another coach , I am sure that Duges would be playing a far better attacking game then at present and that being the case , would be worth a decent salary .But not necessarily the amount being mentioned .

We still require players that possess that grit about them and Dugan is one such player .
Easy enough to let the man go , but just whom is to replace him ? Yes young Duffy is a great prospect for the future , however we also need that class and grit that separates the men from the boys , internationals from top grade players .

To lose Josh Dugan would take a big part of the teams heart and soul , however at the end of the day , you can only spend what money you have .

Spot on Gareth
If dufty becomes a nrl player and is kicking down the door then there is room of both.
You imagine how devastating duges would be under a coach with a game plan.
If he goes even if Dufty become the next bid thing we will miss Dugan.
He saves plenty of try just about every week and that is very hard to replace.

I forgot to mention Doust's stuff up of Gasnier and his thord party payments. Trent
Barrett's father-in-law told me that Doust speaks with a forked tongue and indicates he will make a certain offer and then does not honour his word. Doust should have nothing to do with negotiations as he either under pays with say Morris or Dugan or pays overs with say Vaughan or Hunt. Mark Coyne and/or Ian Millward should be the only ones involved as Doust has no credibility and no people skills.

I want Dugan retained for 2 or 3 yrs.

We created this problem ourselves by paying overs when we originally signed him (notwithstanding we were the last club standing and his only choice at the end of the day).

Offer him the same money and the captaincy if he is part of our plans going forward. Anything less in my view is an insult.

If he isn't part of the plans going forward, tell him that and kill it now rather than challenging him to test the market (assuming he has actually been told that). Surely they can't have forgotten that quickly the admitted instability caused by the 2016 Rein/Benji recruitment clusterf&ck???

The last bloody thing we need this season judging by what we saw in the Charity Shield is for a repeat of said recruitment clusterf&ck with one of our most dedicated and consistent performers.

And if Dugan is worth $100k/season less all things considered, what does that mean for Widdop if contract negotiations are entered into? Will he have to pay to play?

Danny Wessel great name. He is full of it don't believe anything he says. I wish this fake journo would go away with Mary and Doust.

I fear that dufty will be another Quinlan, good in attack but a liability in defense. Dugan is a very good defensive fullback.
Dragons are obsessed with fixing their attack currently but it may come at an expense.
Leaking 32 points in charity shield. And that's with dugan playing fullback. With dufty it could get ugly.

This couldn't have come at a better time for Mary...remember last year and the circus surrounding Marshall and whether he would or wouldn't stay and how Mary used this outside distraction as an excuse for some of the poor performances, well the Dugan saga of whether he will or will not stay has the same ring about it. Lets see how long they let this drama drag on...

3 possibilities.

1. It on the instructions of the new coach for 2018.

2. His money will be used to pay extras for the new coach.

3. We will lose Dufty if we keep Dugan on $800k per year (allegedly).
