Dumbest play ever on a footy field

Similar vain about not knowing the rules; the amount of absolutely stupid captains challenges there are is astounding.

I understand there are some quite late in the game when you are just hoping for a miracle, but you see some absolute head scratchers in tight first halves.

Brent Naden did the same from a short kickoff in a finals game
To be fair to Nado it was close to going over the 10 and he timed it wrong; thought he had a chance to score.

His particular issue was the context of the game; we were up by 7 with 2 minutes left.

I’m surprised how many players don’t understand most of the rules, especially common ones.you can’t expect them to know every rule but it’s their job to be footy smart
f**k that. If you’re getting paid to do a job you should know the rules inside out.

Smart clubs would get all their players ref certified, helps with knowing the rules, learning what refs look for (and therefore how to counter it), and also can do some junior reffing to give back and help club image.

Not knowing the rules to a point you cost your team should be a full match fine

Craig Gower kicking the ball over our dead ball line with 40 seconds to go. Ends up stopping the clock and we have to drop out giving Saints another chance to score. Maybe not the dumbest but lacking in thought.

Didn't cost us the game but it did cost John Lang a new headset. He was on the sideline and he destroyed that thing.

Josh Reynolds had one at the Dogs when he was taking the ball over the sideline for halftime and before he stepped out he belted the ball at an opposition player and was penalised for a deliberate forward pass. He was halfway up the tunnel before he realised he done f**ked up.

Watching a bit of cricket this thing doesn't seem limited to rugby league captains

In one of GFs in the early 1980s between the Eels and the Sea Eagles, a certain Parra winger dropped the ball twice before being making it to the line untouched.

Let me introduce to (drum roll)....

....none other than.

The awesome Neville Glover!

Edit: It was 1976. 😳 Cost the Eels the game. He still cops about it to this day.
