I thought this letter from Eli Roth is interesting.

[HEADLINE: Last chance for a while to see one of my films...]

Hey Everyone,

I'm in Paris, doing press for the French release of Hostel Part II, and tonight I'm off to Rome for the last leg of the press tour. After that I'm going to take a long overdue break, since I've gone from one film to the next without stopping, just to recharge my brain a bit.

Wow. I feel sorry for you already.

Piracy will be the death of the film industry, as it killed the music industry

Yes, I cant believe music doesnt exist anymore. Didnt South Park do a skit for Piracy and the music scene?

What I'm saying is, this is your last chance to see one of my films for a while.

Who are you again?

If everyone on my friends list went to see the film this weekend and brought a friend, it would make a huge difference. Bring a non-horror fan - try to convert them. It's the only way these films will live.

And there it is!! The part where you try convince US to feel sorry for you and put money into YOUR pocket.

To counter piracy, fans can flood file sharing services with fake Hostel II downloads just so no one can ever actually get the movie, but the only thing that really makes a difference is supporting the movie in the theaters.

There it is again..."Please give me money."

Also - the theater OWNERS know this as well. If horror movies aren't bringing in customers, they're not going to program them.

Yes because Piartes only pirate Horror films. Please give me money.

If we are going to send them a message, we have to do it with our wallets, and we have to do it now.

Will you give us our money back if we think it is a piece of garbage and waste of our money? Please give me money from your wallet.

I've done all I can to make a great film for the fans, as violent and bloody and fun as possible. The rest is up to you guys...

"I had an awesome time making a film that costs me virtually nothing and with your money will make me rich."

Thanks again for all your support,

Eli

"Thanks again for your money."

Also I very much doubt that the studios aren't willing to spend up big, it's more likely they would rather pick up a Myspace drone so as to save on marketing. No record house gives a sh*te what quality the music is going out as lon as the bottom line goes up.

Exactly, they're not spending up big anymore, they used to.

It's not a coincidence that now a CD that sells 5,000 copies in a week would be number 1; when 10 years ago it had to sell 20,000 a week. That's proof in itself that piracy has killed the industry. 4 times less sales.

A top-class performer is the same as a top-class production.

Very professional.

It can suck believably, and still be top-class.

High school plays for example. Some might be good, but they certainly aren't top-class; they are very amateurish.

Some Broadway shows might not be very good, but they are all top-class.

I can't stand Elton John; I don't class him as good. But all of his shows are very top-class.

Yes I do actually see your points.

Britney, for example, no doubt used to put on a great "show". I'm sure it was all very spectacular and well choreographed.

Of course, that's all got nothing at all to do with the music, lucky for her.

Oh, and there are a lot of reasons why the music industry is dead, but place MTV at the top of the list.

Or due to P2P & Myspace & the whole WWW thang theres 4 times the choice thusly the sales are spread out versus what we once had where by you only got to hear what some exec decided he/she enjoyed that month.

Legal online sales are included in that 5,000.

But no one buys music legally online. They download it illegally.

Which is the whole point - piracy killed the music industry. Same as is happening with the movie industry; more and more people are starting to download movies illegally.

Despite us selling over $1200 a day just at our store of Itunes Music cards?

Please  You need to stop making assumptions.
