Dykes to play instead of Witt

I know that it probably isn't the right choice seeing that we resigned Witt for 4 years, but I honestly think the young man will not start in the first game against the Dogs. From all reports Dykes has been killing them at halfback, which means that Thorman or Wagon will play 5/8. Thorman admitted recently that he was signed as a halfback and not 5/8 as many people thought, which further supports my theory. And don't forget Wagon and Dykes are 2 of Smith's favourite players.

It wouldn't surprise me..however if this was the case did Thorman play tonight??...i'd be playing him as much as possible in that postion.

Thorman did state however that he was developing his dummy half game aswell??...but i think wagon will be playing 5/8 regardless round 1.

Don't forget, Witty might be moved to 5/8th. He always looked more like a 5/8th than a half to me anyway. Having said that, all the signs so far seem to be pointing to a halves combo of 6.Wagon & 7.Dykes. Go figure. It's probably a very defensively sound combination, but will it give us enough creativity in attack? Alot of pressure on Dykes to get things going in attack as Wagon has ZERO kicking game & VERY LIMITED passing game.

Either way, I doubt very much that Wagon would play in the 5/8 position for more than 20mins anyway. Smith likes to use his little blokes off the bench and that would probably be Witty or Thorman. I'd still like to see Witty there for the full 80 though....

Chris muckert started the game at six. I didn't notice who took over when he was off the field. Witt didn't get out their until there was 10 minutes to go.
Wags didn't play

u sure it wasn't Muspratt he is more of the 5/8 out of the two Cowboys signings.

Dykes from what I saw at the 7's and have been told about in the two trials has really been going great.

might see

6. Witt
7. Dykes

13. Wagon

14. Thorman

Could have been, the ground announcer before the match said Mucket but I may have mis-heard or the announcer may have been mistaken, I don't remember what either look like so I'm only going by that.

Smith may well be going for a defensive halves combo this year but I wouldn't have Wagon at 5/8. Shane Muspratt has impressed me when he played 5/8 fot the cowboys. He has ample skills and has an excellent workrate. I think he would handle the job fine.

well hopefully we can depend on the creativity of all our players, and not just our halves

i'm not a fan of wagon at 5/8th though. sure we need to improve our defense, but what will become of our kicking game???

give the role to my main man thorman

Yeah i reckon we should be giving Thorman as much game time as possible......Thorman could be a sensation of the bench.

I think Mick Witt would handle five-eighth fine, especially in the way the game seems to be played these days (one "half" on either side of the ruck). In the end the 7 and 6 are just numbers, and it is who does the actual work in the positions that counts.

Wags is a great defender, but he shouldn't be in one of those ball distribution roles of a typical half/five-eighth. He can wear the 6 jersey and defend, but as long as he swaps to lock/second row in attack and someone else gets in to playmaker!!

As above, I'd still prefer:
7/6. Dykes
6/7. Witt
13. Wags
9. Morris
14. Thorman
...and think it will happen.
