Dylan Brown is overrated

This year, Brown is on $975,000. If he remains in the blue and gold, he will receive $1.1 million per season thereafter until 2031. And now the Newcastle Knights are pondering whether to table an offer that will blow the Eels out of the water.

If someone offered him more than we already have, and if he wants to go and chase even more money, then good luck to him. He's not worth more than he's contracted/ratcheted for, imo.

Just keep it out of the press Dylan, get it done soon, and focus on giving your best in 2025.

If Dylan had played for the dogs, for instance, for all of his career up until now with his ability, form, off-field shit all being identical, just the club being different - and the Eels were in the market for a 5/8th for 2026, not a single eels fan or member would be happy if we put an offer in excess of $900k for the bloke. I think we’d be losing our mind if we offered over $650-$700k. The fact this bloke could be on over $1m a season is an indictment on cap management.

He could be worth that much at some stage.
But he's not at that stage right now. He has the physical attributes and (seemingly) the work ethic to become a great player. Has shown glimpses, especially through the 2022 season, of brilliance. But I don't see him as a primary playmaker, which is who you would normally pay your big money to.
He had his chance to show he could be the primary playmaker last year, and I don't think he proved his worth.

If he improves his long kicking game and can get more involved in the team's attack in the opposition 20m then he could be that guy. I can't wait to see how he goes under a new coaching structure. Maybe this could be the catalyst for his improvement.

Hopefully he plays great this season.
But if he does then that might give another team reason to pay him big money and he will leave.
If he plays average then no team would want to overspend on him, so he activates his option.

I think I'd rather the former. Get one more good year out of him and get his contract off the books.

No one should be getting over $800k because they “could” be something imo.
To earn that much coin, you should already be proven that you can deliver.

If anything, Dyl’s performances in Moses absence last year dropped his salary ceiling below what he was already being paid

The heart wants him to stay, be marquee, win multiple comps, alongside Moses, and a gun FB (spine players) for the next 6-7 years...

The head and gut say , best thing for the club is he finds elsewhere

Hopefully the heart gets it right this time...

I cant see him staying unless it drags onto round 10.

His manager will eke everything out of this ridiculous timeline to either get more money from Parramatta and we panic or wait for a club to the bitter end to get desperate.

Poor Jason Ryles is now going to have rock up to every press conference or press interview and get asked what's Dylan doing.

If Dylan wanted it out of the press he would have made a decision by now.

I reckon Ryles isn’t fussed if he decides to leave. We have options and then there is Galvin who is also a specialist left side half and would be $600k tops.

I think he is happy if he does leave tbh.

Its more the media continually asking him the same question 3 times a week for 10 x weeks until a decision is made.

Like eventually its going to tick you off.

This has been 5 weeks now and its been in the papers everyday with management trying to push the barrow all these clubs are interested.

Ryles better get use to it cause this is nothing compared to when Moses starts exploring his value on the market next off season

SMH released a top 50 list of players in the game

the only eels i saw were Lomax and Moses, food for thought....

based on last year's form he shouldn't be in the top 50 but I'd like to see him turn that around, we know he is talented and he had a decent first half last week, but for the money he is on he needs to play like that for the whole game week in week out

I didn't say he was over rated

I said he was over paid

I agree that he is currently overpaid.
He's currently earning supposedly $900 k, based purely on potential, not actually on what he has produced and more importantly, deserved.
I'd like him to stay but we'd be fools to pay overs which I'm sure we won't. I'd like to see him and his management team be less mercenary, but that's not how these things are played out these days.
If he goes for money, well it tells me more about his priorities and less about his RL ambition. And that is not the type of player I think Ryles would want at this club anyway.
