Is anyone interested in this title??? I personally thought Rugby 2004 was a steaming pile of rat feacies, but apparently the success of that peice of shit game was still quite large! And therefore the production team, funding and technology have all increased several fold for the sequel (due our in march, apparently), to the point where they are actually now using the same graphics, modelling and engine as FIFA 2005!!!! In fact, I even heard the NZ maori team have done all their motion cap too! If all this is true this could be one heck of a good rugby game!!! definately enough to tide me over to a new league one anyway!

What do you guys think???

Oh yeah, if you find any articles, screenshots, clips etc. be sure to post em here immediately! :D

Yeah I know i may be being hopeful, but it's not as though they don't have the money or resources is it? hopefully they've learnt from the abomination that was Rugby 2004...

Some info at the site in my sig.

They are making the game at the big EA studio this time so they have been able to use their resources.

The NZ Maori did do the motion capture, I hope HB will realised while doing that that Lote Tuqiri is in fact not the NZ Maori flanker...

Rugby 2002 dominated 2004 on so many levels. 2004 was just plain confusing.

However I'll probobly still by 2005/6 because I'm an idiot :p

I'll definately buy the game, I just won't be lining up for it on the day of its release this time...
Also, to be fair, I think Rugby 2004 was never actually completed. It seemed as though they were behind schedual and had to release it before the RWC so instead of delaying it untill it was finished, they just churned it out bugs and all...
This time around that shouldn't be the case.

Not a rugby union fan but I rented Rugby 2004 recently and it seemed alright, I was impressed by some the setup and gameplay detail.....something like this would have been ideal for the rugby league game instead of what we got served up there.

EA Rugby 2004 was developed by HB Studios in Canada, who are also working on the sequel AFAIK.

That's what I thought too, but according to a 3DAvenue article (see: http://www.3davenue.com/index.php?mod=article&id=819) it was developed by HB in Queensland. For 2005 they are using EA studio in Canada, where I believe the other EA Canada games are made.

The 3DAvenue article is wrong. EA Rugby 2004 was made by HB Studios who are entirely based within Canada, and have never had a Queensland studio.

The confusion may have come about because the EA Producer in charge of the project was based in Queensland at EA Gold Coast.

The producer has since moved to Canada, and I believe the current iteration of EA Rugby is being made with some sort of collaboration between HB Studios and EA Vancouver (certainly some technology is being shared at a minimum if reports are to be believed).

I heard the same as mario, the new rugby game is borrowing alot of tech from other ea sports games, heard it on TechTV E3 wrapup if I remember.

Oh ok, I see what you mean.

And with the technology sharing, I've seen quite a few articles saying it will use the Fifa engine.
