Eagles still have a way to go: Orford

MANLY halfback Matt Orford says the Sea Eagles are yet to prove they are premiership contenders despite moving to within two points of the top four.

Speaking after his side's epic back-from-the-dead 32-30 win over Penrith on Sunday, Orford preferred to talk up the chances of those teams currently setting the NRL alight.
"The Storm and the Bulldogs, they deserve favouritism," he said. "The Storm are in fine form - they've won all those games in a row - and the Bulldogs are playing great footy.
"We've still got a long way to go before we can be talked about in the same breath.
"We're happy if people are talking about them and not us. We've still got a lot of work to do."
But Orford admits the Sea Eagles are becoming hard to ignore.
The home side trailed 24-6 at the break before scoring four tries in 15 minutes to hit the lead midway through the second half.
The Panthers came again before Manly hit back, eventually winning the game through a late Travis Burns penalty.
"It was a pretty poor first half, we were always on the back foot, so to come out in the second half like we did shows some real character," Orford said. "It was a real important two points for us."
