SENIOR Sea Eagles are committed to a repeat of their championship-winning 2008 NRL season with the pain of last years early finals departure still stinging.
Manly coach Des Hasler will usher in a new generation of players and leaders of the club when he names his opening-round team on Tuesday.
The Sea Eagles face the Wests Tigers in round one at the Sydney Football Stadium on March 15.
Manly held a successful season launch at the Harbord Diggers on Friday afternoon, with all players enjoying the event with cold bottles of soft drink and water.
Players at the launch spoke of a desire to make up for last years ordinary end, when a disappointing first-up finals loss to eventual premiers Melbourne wiped out any hope of back-to-back titles.
They will now take those intial steps into the coming decade with a new halfback, new captains and a new CEO all working towards one goal - the 2010 premiership.
We are all keen to get back on top, prop Brent Kite said.
I feel that in a lot of ways, we are going to be better off this year.
Certainly in terms of our depth we will be.
In the past, we have been a little light-on in the outside backs for depth, and also in the halves.
This year we have a lot more depth across the board.
Its been a long pre-season, having been knocked out in round one of the finals last year, that was a disappointing way to end the year. Things are shaping up well now.
Everyone is fresh, theres no World Club Challenge and we are ready to go.
Fellow front-rower and co-captain Jason King said the pain of bombing out early last campaign has the squad fired-up for the months ahead.
A lot of the guys were disappointed with the way we finished last year, that gives us extra motivation, the Belrose junior said.
Theres a really good feeling around the club. Everyone has been training really hard and we are just looking forward to the start of the season.
Five-eighth and on-field skipper Jamie Lyon said a strong start was important for the clubs success this year.
Its going to be a tough start for us, we are not at Brookie until round five, he said.
If we can win a few games there, hopefully that will help us down the track later in the season.
Hooker Matt Ballin said comparing to 2008 is hard on the current squad, but a repeat is not out of the question.
Every year you want to win the premiership and be the best team, we just have to back up each week and win games, he said.
