Double ticket offer for Eden Park extravaganza
17/12/2011 8:55:28 PM

A discounted double ticket offer will go on sale before Christmas for the Vodafone Warriors-New Zealand BLACKCAPS doubleheader weekend at Eden Park on March 3 and 4 next year.

The New Zealand cricketers face South Africa in a day-night one-day international at Eden Park on Saturday, March 3 followed by the Vodafone Warriors’ season-opening NRL grand final rematch against premiers the Manly Sea Eagles the next day.

In a joint initiative, the Vodafone Warriors and New Zealand Cricket have today announced Upper East Stand seats will be available for a single price of $40 (adult) and $20 (child) to see both matches. The adult price represents a 27 per cent discount on the combined cost of pre-purchasing tickets for both matches and 20 per cent for a child.

“It’s going to be a fantastic weekend at Eden Park, a chance for sports fans to get out to the park to see both the BLACKCAPS and the Vodafone Warriors in the space of 24 hours,” said Vodafone Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah.

“We’ve got together with New Zealand Cricket and we see real benefits in the two of us offering a discounted single price for a seat at both games. The $40 offer will be a brilliant way for mates to get along to see both games.”

New Zealand Cricket CEO Justin Vaughan said the doubleheader was a great opportunity for sports fans from throughout New Zealand to be involved in a huge weekend in Auckland.

“The BLACKCAPS playing South Africa is world-class cricket entertainment. Double-heading with the opening game of the NRL at the same ground on the same weekend offers a rare treat for sports fans and provides an exciting opportunity for New Zealand Cricket and the Vodafone Warriors to work together,” he said.

Staging the two major sporting fixtures poses a significant logistical undertaking. The ODI cricket fixture is likely to finish about 10pm and the field will be in rugby league mode less than 14 hours later when the Vodafone Junior Warriors face Manly in the NYC curtain-raiser due to kick off at 11.45am on Sunday.

Sponsor logos and other markings on the field will have to be changed, posts will have to be erected, the field marked out for rugby league purposes and advertising signs around the ground’s perimeter will also have to be replaced. A crane will lift the cricket block out with new turf being dropped in while work will also be required to reconfigure some of the stadium’s seating.

The Vodafone Warriors also opened their 2011 campaign at Eden Park, the first time in the club’s history that a ‘home’ game had been played away from Mount Smart Stadium. The ‘Battle of Eden’ against Parramatta drew a crowd of 38,412, a record for an NRL match in New Zealand.

Tickets are expected to go on sale through www.ticketek.co.nz next Thursday. Pre-purchasing the tickets ($40 adult, $20 child) will secure a reserved, ticketed seat in the Upper East Stand for entry to:

Saturday, March 3
One-day international: BLACKCAPS v South Africa, Eden Park, 2.00pm

Sunday, March 4
NRL: ‘Get Even at Eden – The Grand Final Rematch’, Vodafone Warriors v Manly, Eden Park, 2.00pm
NYC: Vodafone Junior Warriors v Manly, Eden Park, 11.45am
