Hagan's recruting for next season is already a vast improvement on last season ... he hasn't signed Todd Lowrie this year.

Only because he wasn't off contract ;-)

No at least two from memory.

Just a lame joke on my part.

Bear in mind PP will be away in Brisbane on the turps so someone needs to keep his end up while he's away.

Majority of clubs are going to be in a similar boat......

Exactly.

Injuries will determine success more than ever before.

Luck will play a massive part of any team winning the minor or major premiership.

The NRL will continue to ramble on about how "the comp is the closest it's ever been", meanwhile a bunch of 19 year-olds will be getting the s#*t kicked out of them every weekend by battle-hardened veterans, others will be off to union, mums and dads will have their kids playing (and nowadays watching) soccer. On top of that every year the ESL will take a new batch of players aged 20-23 every year, as well as the big names who are forced out due to salary cap restrictions, until it becomes as good as the NRL - meaning that both comps will be average.

The game is dying. Until News Ltd give up the 8 million they take from the game each year AND allow the NRL to get what it deserves from TV deals, it will continue to die.

could the NRL be heading in the direction of A-League and the NBA where players are put on the injury list - allowing the club to sign a player to cover for the injured player only for the length of the injury?

I think the NFL style has a good model too. There you can put a player on Injured Reserve and they can't play again that season, but their roster spot becomes freed up (they have a maximum number of active players allowed).

If that was adopted for the NRL, where you could put a player with a season ending injury on Injured Reserve to free up the cap space for the remainder of the year, it would be much fairer to clubs that have been hit hard by injury.

It's a bit silly that you can be pushed over the cap just by a stack of injuries, because the inscentive money from the guys that have to come in to replace them just keeps adding up.

Good onya mate.

That's unfortunately exactly the way it is, but sadly nothing will be done about it until the game isn't worth anything to News Corp anymore. Then and olny then will the league be given back to the people, and then the NRL will need to reinvent itself like the A-League did. However by then no one will give a damn. :(

what positions can Tony Williams play? and can Taulima Tautai play both centre/wing

Tony Williams is a backrower in the Frank Pritchard mould, he may slot in at centre if he has to as his main strength is his wide attacking runs and striong fends.

He was a winger while playing for Mathews and Flegg.

Taulima is predominantly a centre, wing wouldn't be an ideal spot but he'd definitely handle it.

This Flegg side has more potential then 2004, Williams is more dynamic then what Mateo was.

potentially more dynamic yes, not as talented though..

he's got that similar laidback, easy come easy go attitude which he may need to rectify as Feleti did in the last 12 months, I'm sure he won't take as long as Feleti did to rack up a dozen firstgrade fames in his career.

Well maybe not as talented but just as dynamic in other areas if not more.

yeah, but has a tendency to clock off during games and a one of the coach's actually told me that they he still has alot to learn about defence. not sure whether he meant he was lazy or has a technique problem but as dynamic as he is he still has alot to learn.

If PJ goes elsewhere I think we will be ok. An off season of weights will see Kris Keating bulk up enough for nrl and he could play off the bench and Finchy could slot into hooker to give pig a rest. Finch has strong defence and has played there before, or even Kris could be hard to handle out of dummy half.
