peats, norman and a pommie who's never been near nrl are big name recruitment??? :?

No but most other coaches would have struggled to even get those guys.

Anyway I reckon we've recruited extremely well, considering no merkin wants to come here. No big names, but very smart pick ups. Unless the merkins refuse to come.

ricky was a turd with no nrl job cos he was a failure .... he never would have had the nsw (or australia) job if he was a decent nrl coach

Agreed. Only shit clubs like Parra or Canberra would have wanted him, but he does have an extremely high profile despite his recent history of failure.

Maguire on top of Eels' wish list

SUNDAY SIN BIN

Michael Maguire has emerged as a target for Parramatta as the embattled club seeks to replace Ricky Stuart. The South Sydney coach is under contract for next year but it hasn't prevented some Eels powerbrokers from inquiring about his availability. Eels chairman Steve Sharp hinted the club may attempt to pull off a ''reverse Canberra'' and target someone under contract.

''We may have to have an interim coach for 12 months before we chase the person we want,'' he said. ''The person we want, if we don't get a suitable candidate [now], may be employed at another club at the moment. We may do what Canberra did to us, a concerted effort to entice one of those coaches to our club because they are long term and sustainable.'' However, the odds of Parramatta pulling off the Maguire coup are astronomical. At Redfern, he enjoys top-class facilities, a formidable playing roster and a level of stability far removed from the basket case that is the wooden-spooners.

It's unlikely any amount of money could tempt him across. There has also been talk of bringing back Brian Smith, potentially as a coaching director to assist a young coach such as an Andrew Dunemann. The more likely outcome is for Roosters assistant Jason Taylor, who would be a popular choice with Eels fans, to take up the gig.

I went to Parramatta East Primary - and then Macquarie Boys High. I was at Macquarie between 1968 and 1973.

Went to Macquarie for one term in 1968. f**k the place was violent - Being picked on by much older f**kwits stopped when one of the thugs taunted me in front of a few school teachers so I smashed a pint milk bottle over his head and kicked him real hard in the balls while he was down. Such was life for an 11 year old Mediterranean Descendant.

I agree, our recruitment for next year reminds me of 2004 when we recruited Marsh, Stringer, Tahu, Morrison and Riddell for 2005, all solid players that improved our roster.
