 Well Swann then, there are not many top quality offies the last 40 odds years. i don't rate Chuckie because he didn't bowl.

Yeh, Swann's good. There's another chucker presently playing for Pakistan who will end up with a strike rate like Chucker #1. On today's pitches it's a tough job for orthodox spinners. Laker was apparently very good, but had the advantage of bowling on uncovered pitches.....and pitches on which they threw sand and marl. I've played on similar pitches in rural England....great fun for bowling

I rated Saqlain Mushtaq much higher than Chuckie, he bowled the Doosra with a straight arm as well. CA could have had him working with our young spinners but we declined

Are you guys still talking about horse racing?

Of course not....horse racing (actually the pacers) was so......5pm.

We've segued into cricket now, by virtue of the horse Christian Cullen being named after a rugby player, and someone confusing him with Dan Cullen the rather ordinary off-spinner who played a test for Australia. Simples.

By the way, Brad Arthurz's's last name is the same as the last Aust cricket coach. Could be an omens.

He was great. Unfortunately, the fact that the other bloke was allowed to do whatever he liked meant that he could put more work on the ball.

Grand final assistants locked in race to take charge at Eels

Date
October 4, 2013

Adrian Proszenko, Glenn Jackson

One of the grand finalists is likely to lose a coach in the coming days.

Roosters assistant Jason Taylor and Manly counterpart Brad Arthur are in the frame for the top job at Parramatta. A decision on who will replace Ricky Stuart could be made before the grand final but an official announcement is not likely until next week.

Should Taylor get the nod, it will leave a considerable void in the Tricolours' brains trust after assistant Paul Green accepted the head coaching role at North Queensland.

Roosters chief operating officer Brian Canavan said rival interest in the club's mentors was proof the minor premiers boasted just as much talent off the field as on it.

''It's a two-edged sword for us,'' Canavan said. ''Footy clubs are all about growing and developing people and we've had the case of Paul Green being appointed. We're aware of some interest in Jason Taylor and he mentioned that to us as soon as it appeared, as soon as it came on to his horizon.

''We'd cheer for them … but it also leaves a hole in our place.

''They're good fellas, we've enjoyed their company and the coaching staff have gelled amazingly well considering they have only been together a short time.''

Having been appointed on Tuesday, Green said he was still not sure about when he would leave for Townsville.

''Now it's about getting ready for Sunday,'' he said.

The former halfback said he would be chasing consistency from his Cowboys squad, which has underperformed in recent seasons.

''They're certainly a great team on their day, but they just need to be able to produce that effort consistently,'' Green said.

Asked what sort of coach he was, he said: ''Hopefully successful.''

I reckon Sterling goes alright. Actually calls the game when they give him the mic on Nine, hosts a footy show that actually talks about footy and occasionally writes solid analysis articles for NRL.com (I think). Unlike Wally/Vautin or any other commentator with strong ties to a club he is also capable of maintaining an objective view point.

Roy Masters and Steve Mascord come to mind as two of the better Rugby League journos.

I can't say much else for the rest of them but it certainly wouldn't be anything pleasant.
