Well the board are looking long term while BA is trying to save his bacon making any signing he can.
Good on the board.

Yeah ok, so BA try’s to save his job by letting a 170 game half leave to replace him with 18 year rookie with no games.

NRL is a brutal game and a bloody tough competition, it takes a massive toll on players bodies. Brown is only 19 and Mahoney 21 this year, it’s a massive ask to expect them to play 80 mins a week for 24 rounds, apart from their inexperience, their bodies probably aren’t ready for it. There will be times where they will struggle.

Signing an experienced player like Luke is actually thinking about the future. It alllows BA to give brown / Mahoney a break when he see’s they are struggling, it reduces the pressure on having to play the “rookies” for the whole season. It allows them to be eased into the NRL, give them breaks when injured (rather then playing like more season veterans do). Additionally it provides more experience to which the rookies can learn from.

Signing Luke (or another spine player) was not about saving BA’s job but BA looking after his youngsters!

Surely it’s the HoF’s role to look to the future in regards to recruitment, rather than the board. Otherwise, why did we employ one?

However, it is the Mole so the likelihood of this being 100% accurate is slim to none.

Isn’t there a recruitment “committee”:

“We will restructure our Recruitment Department and commence a search for a new Head of Recruitment. We will establish a Player Roster Management Committee in order to develop a more sophisticated approach to player roster management for both our NRL & Development squads. A further analysis will be conducted by the General Manager of Football into the List Management operations. Peter Sharp will remain a valuable member of our recruitment team.”

Sure...either way though it shouldn’t be up to the Board to veto those decisions (assuming salary cap compliance is maintained).

Didnt BA say in a recent interview "Sharpie is all over it" when discussing the need for another "9"?
Is it possible the "Head of Recruitment" and the "Player Roster Management Committee" referred to never eventuated?

I understand the reason the signing didn't proceed was the amount requested by Luke's management to sign, it was far in excess of actual value even to upgrade our position, and he signed for considerably less to stay in NZ. The belief is that was his intention from the outset , to get a better deal from the Warriors.
