Unemployment to Super League grand final: former Warrior Krisnan Inu's stunning year
    08:29, Oct 11 2019

Former Warrior Krisnan Inu is set for a remarkable first Super League grand final appearance.
Former Warrior and Kiwi Krisnan Inu will cap a stunning turnaround in his rugby league career when he appears in this weekend's Super League grand final.

The 32-year-old winger is playing for Salford, who are aiming to win their first title in 43 years when they take on St Helens at Old Trafford on Sunday morning (NZ time).

And Inu is part of a trio of players (forwards Gil Dudson and Greg Burke the others) - 'misfits', as described by The Guardian - who will complete a remarkable 360-degree transition after being involved in last year's Widnes squad which was relegated to the Championship division.

Salford finished second-to-bottom in the Super League last year, but made it through The Qualifiers, to retain their place in the top flight.

While Burke had secured a contract with the Red Devils for 2019, Dudson and Inu had had their contracts automatically terminated at Widnes upon relegation.

Auckland-born Inu, who began his career in the NRL with the Parramatta Eels in 2007, played 21 games for the Warriors between 2011 and 2012, before joining the Canterbury Bulldogs for three seasons, and played in a grand final with each of them.

Scoring a try for the Bulldogs, Krisnan Inu is now looking to cap a stunning 12-month turnaround.
He also played six tests for the Kiwis and one for Samoa before heading to the Super League's Catalans Dragons, then to Widnes for the 2018 season.

He had renegotiated a deal with the Vikings but was then released when the club entered administration, and when this year's season kicked off Inu was unemployed, before eventually being picked up by Salford in March.

"It was a very hard time," he told The Guardian. "You begin to wonder if anything is going to come up. It was on my mind every day and, like Gil says, when you sign here you wonder if it's your last chance. A grand final is the last thing on your mind.

"Ian Watson [the Salford coach] has seen something in us all nobody else did. When you're sat at home wondering if the call will come … to be a part of this now just a few months later is incredible really."

geez I remember a game at Parra stadium when Inu and The Special One tore the Broncos a new one about 10 years ago, sitting in the nose bleed section of the old Stadium

    he's been around since forever

Sadly my most prominent memory of Inu was the day he decided to trap a bomb with his foot instead of catching it. Like Mateo, he was brilliant but had so many rocks in his game as well. I often wonder what Jack Gibson could have turned that pair into.

So other than signing players for 2021 and trying to convince them to walk early, off contract players that fill our 2nd roe/backup hooker needs are Oates, Capewell, Luke & Lawrence.
All 4 are probably expendable to their current clubs caps

I’d take Luke now and hold off on the edge forward to try and get a quality replacement to get out of their contract early. Matto has been given permission to negotiate so you could add him.

Yep. Offer him a year (even at a higher salary than if it was over multiple years) and tell him to earn another year with his performances.
