But that's one of the main arguments against the NFSD policy in any case, and Reynolds has not been to court either. By waiting, are they suggesting that they may suspend him regardless of the outcome?
They may suspend him afterwards, but if they have viewed footage and they haven’t gone NFSD now then it would seem they have an opinion on the alleged offence’s severity

11 years, according to this. But maybe not the minimum. But also, Todd can do whatever the f**k he wants...

The New Rule
Rule 22A (New Rule) was introduced into the NRL Rules on 11 March 2019 by the ARLC and NRL and provides that:

  • players charged with a criminal offence carrying a penalty of at least 11 years will be automatically stood down from playing in the NRL competition;
  • the suspension will not require any finding of fault by the player and there is no right of appeal;
  • players are still able to train with their team and are entitled to be paid their full remuneration under their contracts; and
  • the NRL’s CEO can use his discretion to stand down players charged with less serious criminal offences, particularly where the offence involves women and children.

That does read like it should be a minimum sentence of 11 years but minimum sentencing of that length (assumedly of a single offence) is going to be a real serious offence. Off the top of my head drunken coward punch fatal assault carries like an 8 year minimum?

Yeah, I think it's just badly worded and the maximum sentence must be "at least" 11 years.

The Fijian law has max sentence for indecent assault at 5 years

Yeah so point four: Todd can do whatever the f**k he wants. Be interesting to see what happens if the court case gets adjourned until well into the season. All the NRL had to do is say that they respect the rule of law and the presumption of innocence. People would have shut up about de Belin soon enough. But now they've opened a can of worms cos Todd and Beattie wanted some brownie points.
