Parramatta has been plagued by an injury crisis in its backline this season, and Arthur essentially ran out of specialist centres and wingers to play on the flanks.

"On the subject of everyone having an opinion, Brad Arthur copped it from the keyboard warriors for playing his son Jake at five-eighth and moving Dylan Brown to the centres," Gallen wrote.

"Those critics have conveniently forgotten Parramatta's injury crisis that has left them without a number of outside backs.

"Not for a second would I believe Brad Arthur would pick anything other than his best combination each week."

Now he uses Gallen to back up his claims lol, a bloke who he has sledged on here for years. What a whombel.

Just like you can’t answer why Jakey was picked in round 1 when we had adequate back up.
Your whataboutisms regarding Rnd 1 is a tad obsessive. It's been talked about for 2 months now, yet clearly that's not enough for you, cos you want to talk about it every day.

Adequate backup meaning options for a back on the bench ? You must mean Opacic. But he can only play centre. So if we lose a 1 6 or 7 then what ?

Rnd 1 NRL team.....................vs.................Rnd 1 NSW Cup

If in round 1 we lose a center oppa slots in.

if we lose a winger, waqa to wing, oppa to centre.

if we lose Gutho, russel to fullback, waqa to wing and oppa slots in

if we lose a half, Gutho to half and see above for the rest.

yet we chose an average rookie on the bench and moved our 5/8 to centre. They also trained this way in the off season.

which one disrupts the team more?

Well I'll leave that to the centrists of the forum who can answer that calmly and without a fixed mindset. Cos there are alternatives to this and the way they played vs Newcastle showed how they trained for it in the offseason.

I liked the game plan and hopefully down the track someone like Jayden Yates can fill that role.

Oppa on benchChanges NeededJake on benchChanges Needed
Lose GuthoRussell to FB, Waqa to wing, Oppa in (3 changes)GuthoMoses to FB (happened before), Jake In (2 changes)
Lose either wingerWaqa to wing, Oppa in (2 changes)Lose either wingerWaqa to wing, Drown to ctre, Jake in (3 changes)
Lose either centreOppa in (1 change)Lose either centreDrown to ctre, Jake in (2 changes)
Lose either halfGutho to half, Russell to FB, Waqa to wing, Oppa in (4 changes)Lose either halfJake in (1 change)

Just put your options into a table so they can be clearly assessed by anyone who bother to.
I am not getting into which option was better or worse because either option required changes that were not dissimilar in the level of disruption caused. Maybe Gutho, Moses or Drown were carrying a minor injury that the club was worried about?

Anyway, Round 1 is done and over with and I think from memory we got away with the 2 points.

the ones that called Ja’s inclusion in round 1 as a disgrace, got ridiculed because they happen to not be part of the Ba fan club. Here we are 8 weeks on and most are questioning the decision now. The few remaining are defending the actions of the coach blaming his inclusion on injuries.

I said my piece many times. The best solution is always team balance. The "anyone but Jake" policy smells a lot like the "anyone but Will" from a couple of seasons back and now everyone wishes that he stayed.
Will Smith is a very ordinary footballer, but at least he is physically up to the rigours of first grade. Jake is not, actually he’s not even close. He might have the brain of a first grader or even the skill set(debatable) but it doesn’t matter if he isn’t physically up to it.

Who decided he actually was?? Surely some none contact drills doesn’t tell you too much, how he’s the only back up half in the top 30 is one for Ripleys.

And will smith probably costs 100k more on the cap. ... 100k that would help line someone like penisinis pockets

At the risk of being accussed of being a BA apologist (which FTR I am not - I would happily have Jake not picked in FG if there was a viable option and I would not be extending BA's contract unless there was a viable option or we won at least one of the 2 GF's available during the remainder of his contract), I am interested in how you have determined that Jake is "not even close" physically to the rigours of first grade. From what I have witnessed, he hasn't been caught missing due to fatigue or hasn't arm-grabbed in defence due to laziness. Keen to understand where this assessment comes from.

Obviously you are not referring to his skillset as you explicitly mention that as a debatable issue.

As always your the flip-flopper extraordinaire. Seems familiar ?

If Dill Smith is anywhere near the 17 BA needs to be fired a cannon into the sun.

Hopefully with Smith.
Lol if Dill Smith played at 6 today we lose by 40.
Surely McMerkinwaitth is a better option on the bench than Dill Smith???

He can cover dummy half and slip into a middle forward role if need be. Smith can play a lot of positions equally poorly and is a liability in defence in all of them.
