Former Hull FC and Catalans Dragons forward Manu Ma’u has taken up his first coaching role after retiring from professional rugby league. Ma’u spent five seasons in Super League after joining Hull from Parramatta Eels ahead of the 2020 campaign.

He spent three years with the Black and Whites before making the move to the south of France for the final years of his professional career. As such, after seeing his contract come to an end with Catalans, he has returned Down Under to take up a coaching position.

Ma’u has started work as a full-time coach at League Kings Academy in Mackay, which is owned and run by former Catalans, Huddersfield Giants and Castleford Tigers back-rower Kenny Edwards. Edwards set the academy up earlier this year with the aim of helping kids in Queensland develop their rugby league skills and help them on their journey as young players.

Over the last year, Edwards has welcomed in the likes of Mahe Fonua, James Tamou and Todd Carney as coaches and Ma’u will now join the set up as a full-time employee. The 36-year-old will be playing alongside Edwards with Souths Sharks, who operate in the Mackay and District league, too.

“After recently retiring from professional footy over in the super league with the Catalans Dragons he has relocated to Mackay to become a coach in our academy,” the League Kings Academy announcement read.

“Our new coach is not only going to bring his hard edge to our academy but also a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the technical side of the game!

“Welcome to the team Manu Ma’u we can’t wait to see what 2025 has installed for us.”

Is that THE Kenny Edwards. If it is we can expect Qld Origin sides to have the 'cramp manoeuvre' down pat. Happy days :D

NRL injury news: Parramatta forward Shaun Lane sent for knee surgery
Parramatta’s backrow stocks are set to be tested with star Shaun Lane undergoing surgery for a meniscus injury in his knee.

Shaun Lane is in doubt for the opening round of Parramatta’s season after undergoing a knee operation.
The skilful backrower is unlikely to feature in any of the Eels pre-season trial matches as he overcomes the minor knee surgery.
The procedure was required in the wake of Lane originally suffering a hamstring injury late last year.

It was during his rehabilitation from his hamstring injury that the 30-year-old complained of knee soreness, of which was then scanned by medical staff to reveal a minor meniscus issue.
Lane has commenced running on a modified program and is aiming to return to the main Eels squad within the next two to three weeks.
Parramatta face the Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park on March 9.
New recruit Jack Williams, Kelma Tuilagi, Kitione Kautoga and Charlie Guymer will all be considered as backrow options should Lane be ruled out of round one.

I'm unsure Lane would of been in our top 17 if everyone's fit.

The club panicked after we lost Papa, Ghreed, Kafusi, Stone etc etc. They re-signed Baldie and thought that would be the magic bullet and then all our senior players went to market and squeezed the club dry.

But but but but but the boys loved playing for Brad!!
We lost those merkins because they were on unders and we couldn't afford to upgrade them. The ones we kept remained affordable by taking extra years or player options rather than chasing the money.

So affordable we could only afford RMC dregs to fill in our top 30.
