both Mannah boys are definitely at Parra, in fact I'm pretty sure Tmmy signed an extension recently.

I'm pretty sure he's agreed to help you guys out.

So hes a consultant for 3 clubs, so he will be telling the halves of each club the same thing.

Watch all three pairs play the same next year

Ok, I must be thinking of someone else. I don't know where I got the idea but I thought he'd gone to Manly.

Back to Ryan, sure he would be a great signing? but think about these few facts:

- he would be what 28, 29?
- Do you sacrifice Willams Mannah etc for his signature
- It's 2 years away, alot can happen between now and then eg form, injuries etc
- If his form is still good he would command $350,000 on open market.

My opinion? no. I think he's a great player, but unless he was to have a significant pay cut i dont want to risk loosing younger players from our Flegg and ball sides eg Mannah, Williams, Kelly etc. And yes i'm aware that many youngsters dont live up to there hype, but that's a risk we always have to take, and i'd rather a strong emphasis on junior development then be a club like the Roosters.

Sign for less with us and i'd welcome him with open arms and more.

Denial of Ryan release

http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,22779389-5001023,00.html

THE Bulldogs last night denied a rumour that skipper Andrew Ryan was poised to ask for a release.
Ryan has been linked with a return to Parramatta but Bulldogs chief executive Malcolm Noad said the former NSW forward would not be leaving the club.
Asked had Ryan requested a release, Noad said: "No, he hasn't and we wouldn't expect that to happen. It would be very surprising.''

Joey will be working 1 maybe 2 days a fortnight, he'll be involved with 2 other clubs, Canterbury and Newcastle so he's actually a consultant rather than a contracted employee at the club.

Not sure about Craig Smith only that it may be a similar deal to joeys, Smith I believe has a business in Wollongong so he's definitely not going to work for the club fulltime.

Darryl Halligan's the same.
Thanks.

Maybe they'd look at Chad and Wags vs Ryan and one of the above for 2009 onwards? Similar styles, similar potential in passing their experience on to the younger forwards coming through. Who knows what Chad and Wags future intentions then might be by then as well.

In the climate with no anti-tampering rule, clubs have to stay a step ahead and think about anyone from other clubs coming off contract (or wanting out early) who might be interested in rolling into our set-up, because you can never tell well players on contract will change their minds and want to roll out either.

Very hard to plan and run a football squad these days, calculating the salary cap is probably one of the less difficult aspects of covering all the bases and having a strong top 25, and players to draw on from national U20 and local open age feeder teams.

yep, a year go that job last took atleast 6 to 9 months of the year to fulfil, it's all of a sudden become a 12 month 24/7 roll for each club to fill their top 25 which is a priority for any ball club and the juggling act that goes with it is in itself a massive task because you need to make decision on whether to fill those rolls from within or from outside, either way it's a big gamble except of course if your trying to fill in the blanks with big ticket items which we're trying to do with 2 players as we speak.

A club would be doing well now to fill up their fulltime list 9 months before the start of the season and as we speak we currently have about 10 positions filled with about 15 left we're still 16 months form the 09 season.

The Hayne and INU signing would be on one hand would be a major coup but would also chew up a fair amount of cap space...where we go from there would be very interesting.

09 is when Huaraki and Feleti will be tearing it up. Ryan would cost too much and We don't need him anymore. Besides that young Martin Lewis is a Ryan clone but an Improved version.

I agree, we do not need him, with Hindy and Caylo being our main forwards with experience, we do not need another one. Plus, Piggy can always play 2nd row if the young hookers show their worth. A prop is a different story though.

the thing is Angry, you can't just turn to Juniors for the sake of it it does appear that we're a little short on classy backrowers coming through and by pinning our hopes on particular players can prove to be fatal.

both Marty Lewis and Tony Williams are 2 kids that could make a name for themselve in the next year or 2 but I really think they need some hard heads with them to guide them along and even that's not guarenteed to woirk.

I think you are discounting alot of good talent coming through because they aren't U20.

8. Cayless / Cordoba
10. Paulo
11. Hindmarsh
12. Hauraki
13. Mateo

Now that is a pack that will have some impact. After a good soild year of first grade Paulo and Hauraki could be anything and in the mean time we have Chad, Daniel and even Joe Galuvao to give us the experience.

Ryan seemed to be showing his age in the backend of the season. don't feel he would be worth the $$$ he would be after for the value he would give us after another season with the dogs.....especially if they have a lean year and he gets bashed around a bit.

don't worry about bobcat, I'm predicting that every Manager under the sun will contact the club in the next day or 2 to ask them whether they're interested in a good young halfback, heck, it wouldn't surprise me if we're linked to Kimmorely by the end of next week.
