The Pirtek Parramatta Eels today paid tribute to one of its longest serving staff members in NRL assistant coach Matt Cameron, who departs the Club this week to take up a role with the Penrith Panthers.
Cameron has held a variety of coaching and player development roles with the Eels over the past 15 years, having coached the Clubs Reserve Grade, Jersey Flegg and Toyota Cup sides at different stages between 2004 and 2011.
More recently, Cameron played a dual role in overseeing the Clubs talented youngsters as Elite Development Manager where he took a lead role in running the Eels Academy, a specialised development unit for the Clubs elite young players and as NRL assistant coach to Stephen Kearney.
Cameron will join the Panthers from next week as their High Performance Manager.
Kearney today paid tribute to Camerons significant contribution to the Eels:
Matts overseen the development of some of this Clubs top players over a long period of time and he has certainly been a big part of the success weve had in the past 18 months with the Eels Academy, Kearney said.
Hes excited about the opportunity hes been given and everyone here wishes him well in his new role.
Cameron said he departed the Eels with more than a decade of great memories and with the knowledge the elite development pathways he has helped build remain a focus of the Clubs forward plans.
Ive enjoyed every minute of my 15 years at the Eels and been really fortunate to work with some great people during my time here, Cameron said.
Being able to work with senior players like Nathan Hindmarsh and Luke Burt and be involved in the development process of guys like Ben Smith, Tim Mannah and Matt Keating has been a highlight.
I wish the Club every success going forward.
