I guess we'll hang onto Gordon now, with uncertainty over Norman's court case and 2016 availability? Toutai in until Taka recovers, French stays in firsts.

Edwards to five eighth, Gower and Alvaro retain their spots when Mannah returns. And hope that Cornish is fit by the time of Norman's court case in July?

Look on the bright side. The season is gone so not as bad as if we were in top 8 and in with a real chance of winning the title and we lost him. That would have been a bigger kick in the guts.

BA is a champion and I'm a fan of his but surely he feels some heat for this.

Sterlo was gob smacked we were risking Foz last night after BA admitted Kieran's shoulder was f**ked and needed an injection to play when interviewed before the game.

Against Newcastle in a nothing game FFS.

Parramatta Eels forced to blood fifth-string halves partner for Corey Norman

Foran done in 2016

PARRAMATTA will be forced to blood a pair of teenage halves in reserve grade this weekend as they desperately search for a fifth-string playing partner for Corey Norman.

The news somehow got worse for the Eels with $1.2 million recruit Kieran Foran ruled out for the season with a shoulder injury.

Foran damaged the bicep tendon in his shoulder during Monday night’s gritty 20-18 win over Newcastle, which was a separate injury to the one he bravely carried into that game.

On top of Foran’s heartbreaking setback, Brad Takairangi, the man who had slotted into five-eighth as Foran spent three weeks in a Queensland rehabilitation clinic being treated for personal issues, also broke down against the Knights, and will miss up to a month with a hamstring injury.

With Mitch Cornish out for up to two months with a quad strain, and another halfback, Luke Kelly, gone for the season with an ACL injury, Eels coach Brad Arthur could be forced to pin his hopes on 18-year-old local juniors Troy Dargan and Michael Doolan.

While both youngsters have played a couple of games against the men in the Intrust Super Premiership, this will be the first time the pair are united.

The match in Auckland could quickly become a shootout for an NRL jumper.

Arthur has had to front up each week dealing with boardroom dramas, salary cap breaches, loss of competition points, the forced departure of hooker Nathan Peats, the sudden exit of Junior Paulo, Foran’s personal leave, as well as Norman’s drugs possession charges, so was understandably not in the mood to discuss Foran’s injury.

“My next media will be captain’s run in Darwin. Not talking about the negatives anymore. Hope you understand,’’ Arthur wrote in a text message.

Some of the players did their best to escape reality by enjoying Russell Crowe’s new comedy The Nice Guys.

Club captain Tim Mannah, who like Arthur has fronted up to the cameras to answer the tough questions week after week, said the loss of Foran was tough to take, but they could continue to win without him, starting with the Titans.

“I’ve said it before, but there are worse things in life than having a bad season with a footy team,’’ Mannah said.

“It’s sad news for the team, but also a good chance for ‘Foz’ (Foran) to get his body right.

“He’s tough, and when he came off on Monday night and stayed off, obviously there was something wrong.

“We can still win games. I’m encouraged by the good people we’re surrounded by each day at the club, including the coaching staff and the players. Our priority isn’t the finals, it’s winning the next game, and if we do that, we’ll then try to win the next game after that.

“It’s not ideal what has happened, but I also have a lot of confidence in the players who come into the squad.’’

Even more predictable than Tim's "toughest pre season ever" and "eels are no longer mentally weak" stements to start every season are his "there are more important things than being good at footy" speech at around the 12-14 round mark each year.

You know what, of all people, I bet Tim actually believes that though...

It's funny cause it is true in the scheme of things, however bad season, after bad season for a sporting club is important. Losing members, sponsors and not attracting players is the risk of being so shit consistently.

Would be nice to hear something different that leads us to believe they are hurting and trying to turn it around rather than just essentially saying shit happens.

Agreed. It's the only positive way to look at it.

These injuries and departures could be a blessing, we could get to blood a bunch of players giving the squad more experience and depth for next year.

It's not like we were going to win the Comp this year.

Sure. But I think we may need some more experienced cover brought in. You want the young blokes playing in a competitive team.

One way to think about it is..

Imagine we had gone 10/10, we're at round 20, we've lost the 12 points, but the 20 points we have now puts us at, let's say 8th.

Then this happens. Foz does his shoulder, Taka with the hammy..

At least right now, most of us were already prepared that we weren't going to make the finals, even if we were hoping for a miracle.. like I was.

And I still am, I'm still hoping we'll have a story book run and make it, but the ratio I have of hoping we'll make it to my being prepared to not make it have shifted way more to being prepared now.

It's less of a blow now than it would have been in 8 weeks or so..

I do recall a post being deleted around these parts during the off season that was had a link to a blog published elsewhere that was insinuating similar.
