We simply have to accept there is no one in the 2011 side who can offer what Pritchard was able to offer in his time with our club. ME will have to come up with a different game plan and maybe that is not such a bad thing, time will tell.

Pritchard was great when he showed up once very 3-4 games, the other games when he average 7 hit ups, not so good.

I think the development of Paulo could make or break our season, without him our backrow lacks impact

Yeah the way they played last week to me it seems like we will start with a workhorse backrow about 30mins in the impacts comes in a hooker. ATM Taumata at the same time a impact backrower. That won't be Purtell but if Trent or Smith don't get up for round 1. Sat's game could put him in the frame. As for the impact forward it's up in the air still sadly.

This is from Panthers Injury Update:

Injured players are:
Luke Lewis - ankle syndesmosis - mid/late February
Luke Walsh - hip & lower back - should trial
Nathan Smith - Osteitis pubis - should trial
Joseph Pualo - Lumbar - mid/late Feb
Lachlan Coote - Osteititis pubis - started contact sessions, will be right round 1
Trent Waterhouse - Left pectoral - light contact, should be right for round 1
Yileen Gordon - right adductor strain - should trial

Not all of those players were named, but a few are ahead of schedule so I would expect come Round 1 we should be right. It's only injuries we pick up between now and then that should effect us.

Glad that means as little to others as it does to me.

What little I do know is because of Coote having it last year. Something to do with the hip/thigh being strained.

I dunno but IMO the scoreline justified my wanting of Walsh and Purtell to be dropped.

Walsh is nothing if our kickchase isn't turning kicks into gold. While Purtell is just nothing under any circumstances.

So was the performance as bad as the score indicates?
Not really. We deserved to lose. We had no problem getting the ball wide we just lacked the quality to finish it off. Insert Jennings & Gordon we score at least 2. They scored 2 off kicks. The main thing we did wrong was the little things. We had no scoots Gordon would of fixed that. We needed Smith/Waterhouse defence in the mid field. Sene-Lefao was my man of the match he was awesome should get the bench spot

Can you tell me a bit about him, is he rangy backrower (ala Paulo) and what did he do well?
Yeah. Not far off Paulo's size just not as much of a ball player. He put some hits on a few Parra players would have sore ribs today. He ran hard taking 2 & 3 defenders everytime. Still got an arm free with a Jennings flying through could cause damage. On Taumata yeah he created some space out wide our centres just couldn't finish it off. His only fault was he didn't kick. He left Walsh & Coote to kick. A 6 needs to help out Walsh. Burns game last week was outstanding given ME would want Burns/Walsh to step up from last year. They should with an off season together. I would say Burns will be 6.

Also, I read that Taumata was a stand out, did he do enough to unseat Burns?

I went to the game, he had some good runs, but he was not what i would call a standout in that game. He wasted quite a few tackles trying some runs that were just obviously not happening and he provided no direction to the team, but in fairness to him no one did that game. Also if those are the sort of performances Walsh is going to keep turning in we need to get rid of him fast.

The Positives:

It was only a trial which supporters of clubs who lose trial's generally try and trot out as an excuse.

The pitch looked in great condition.

The new amenities on the southern hill looked fantastic, although I didn't have to use them as we are perched on the half way line western stand.

The bars not opening during the junior reps, Matts and Ball, which lessened an otherwise horrific hangover the next day.

The negatives:

There were NO positives.

Waking up in Fibroman's lounge room at 7am after three or four sleepless hours because he refused to turn on his aircon.

Can't remember a single occasion when we actually looked like scoring or threatening the Parra line.

Drowning my sorrows at the Paceway after the main game (with Fibroman), instead of going home with my son as I was supposed to do.
