I bought it today for the 360..this is probably the best game ive played in years.

you can do so many things and its very open,

after completing a little tutorial mode i was in the open fields and hill side, i walk a few steps and this mugger attempts to rob me..so i block his moves meanwhile one of the patrol guards notices the fight, hops off his horse and begins to take out the mugger.

i run to the guards horse and steal it, as i ride off i can hear his voice yelling "theif".

ive also killed a villager who was all alone so i would avoid the guards and etc, it was great hearing the villagers talk about the murder after i had chassed him from his farm to his home lol.

----

Gamespot gave this a 9.6 and once you play this game its easy to see why.

Damn! I sooooo want this game!

Unfortunately I'm getting it for my birthday, which is like over a month away. :(

I was reading on the forums at xbox.com.au that one guy was playing Oblivion and in it he killed a guy and as he went to ride off his horse stopped and pissed on the dead body!

It is epic. I rented it out just to see what it was like...awesome.. such a huge game. Has a few frame rate jitters and it has 'halo loading', but when you appreciate the good things about it, and think about how outstanding the game is technically apart from those issues, it really is amazing. I'd never played any of the previous games, and I'd heard they were big.. but I really had no idea.

I really just spent the whole time exploring, and it'd take a fair while to get bored with that I'd imagine. I'll definitely have to buy it in the next few weeks when I get some more cash.

The biggest problem I had with Morrowind, great game as it was (once you get into it blah blah), was the overall lack of personality. You walk into a town, and the whole thing looks great, and it feels like a town, but then you talk to the people and you feel very much alienated because no matter who you talk to, be them a cat person slave or a high priest, they say the exact same thing over and over, offer nothing and there is no need for them besides being purely aesthetic.

Has this changed at all? In any case I like the idea of creating your own world by your own actions and not necessarily by those dictated to you, so I have a blast playing Morrowind, but sometimes I would like a greater deal of involvement in the world and greater consequences for actions.

Meh, I'ma buy it anyway :D

Yeah, I hear what you're saying. I don't think it really has the personality of a game like Zelda.. probably because it's so non-linear I guess, and the overall size would have to lead to a bit of quantity over quality I suppose. That being said, I haven't played that much of Oblivion, but I've heard similar things from people who have played Morrowind.

it feels like every person you meet has a personality, whether its someone you just helped or just random person.

another great thing, your not the only person who is helping others...you run into other wanna bee heros lol.

I'll pick it up for PC tomorrow, but I think I may need to upgrade to really appreciate the graphics, the old 9800 Pro just don't cut it with the latest games.

I've always been a fan of the Elder Scrolls games, Morrowind was a bit of a shocker though - no NPC personality and not enough different enemies.

Morrowind was grand, but Daggerfall was epic. It was just absolutely massive. I remember the demo alone for Daggerfall covered about the same amount of terrain as in all of Morrowind.

Can't wait to grab Oblivion.

Daggerfall was big but boring. Towns where the same.

As for Morrowind. I struggled to get past the first town after you get off the boat. Not because i died or anything, but because i was very picky with the character creation. I'd play for 10 minutes and reset cos i wanted something new. I guess that's a bad thing about having a great character creation system.

Might pick up Oblivion either today or tommorow for $85-88...

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but does anybody ever find themselves going back to Oblivion?

A bit tired of Skyrim after a few hundred hours and no really exciting user made mods to expand it, I dug up Oblivion and installed a few old favorites.

A mod called FCOM: Convergence allows you to run the four major content mods (OOO, MMM, Francesco's, and War Cry) all at once and substantially beefs up the game experience. Add in the official expansions and a slew of surprisingly good companion (Vilja in particular) and quest mods (Sundered Keep, Lost Spires, Tears of the Fallen etc) and it's been a far more immersive and enjoyable play than Skyrim. The graphics beef ups have made it comparable and there's far more to explore and do.

After constant Skyrim CTD (crash to desktop) errors (doubtless related to me having 157 mods installed) - I'm back in Oblivion again.

Man, I wish somebody would do an FCOM: Convergence style setup for Skyrim.

In the meantime, loving Oblivion. Such a fun game.

I found Oblivion a lot more fun than Skyrim. I don't know if it was because it was my first real RPG but I loved it a lot more than Skyrim. I found the overall story and the world to be better. The only thing I would change is an update to the graphics and movement as Skyrim characters look and move a lot better.

I enjoyed the main quests, thieves guild, dark brotherhood and fighter's guild a lot more in Oblivion. I felt Skyrim eventually got too repetitive and predictable with their 'find this in a cave' quests. Plus no Sean Bean leading the army against the Great Gate!

I've only ever had both games on 360 so no mods for me. But if the Middle Earth Role Playing mod ever came out I'd buy a gaming PC just for it.

I've put well over 600 hours into Oblivion, and still haven't finished it. The main quest is so uninspiring, but everything else... I freaking love everything else in the game.

I don't think I've ever finished the main quest. I'd keep finding a new overhaul and install it, but that would mean starting afresh.

I prefer Oblivion, but do miss some of the gameplay innovations from Skyrim. I wish they'd finish Skyblivion.

The guilds in Oblivion were some of my favorite moments in gaming. The Dark Brotherhood especially, felt really let down by Skyrim's in comparison.

Really? I quite enjoyed the Dark Brotherhood storyline in Skyrim. Loved the whole betrayal thing. Did not see it coming.
