Eli Manning: A Bust so far....

Peyton Manning is experiencing the high of highs this season whilst rookie QB and number 1 draft pick Eli Manning is going through tough times in his rookie season where he in many people's opinions was going to be doing what Ben Roethlisberger is doing in Pittsburgh.

Today, Eli Manning was pulled for former 2 time NFL MVP Kurt Warner, Manning's stats read:

4/18 - 27yds - 0TDs - 2INTs vs Baltimore

Eli Manning's Season

38/92 - 41.3% - 489yds - 1TD - 4INTs - QBR 44.2

The above is poor even in comparison to recent number 1 pick busts. NO, I am not writing off someone with the Manning name, his support group is too good for that as is his talent, though this illustrates just how well Big Ben is doing in the NFL as a rookie QB.

Big Ben's Season

155/229 - 67.7% - 1940yds - 14TDs - 6INT - QBR 103.2

I know who will be getting the Rookie of the Year votes, don't you?

It's to early in his career to right him off as a definite bust don't get me wrong, though he has failed to meet NYG fan's expectations it can be safely said. I feel the NYG's played Manning when in truth there was need as the Giants with Warner were winning games. There is nothing wrong with bringing on a guy slowly ala' McNair, Palmer etc.

This guy will be under enormous pressure at the moment having to live in the shadow of his brother, under the microscope that is NY and deal with being a QB in the NFL.

Good luck Eli...

Roethlisberger made it 12 wins in a row defeating the Pennington led NY Jets...the record continues...

Roethlisberge struggled somewhat but still, the Steelers got the most important stat in the WIN column:

9/18 - 50% - 144yds - 0TD - 2INT

almost every rookie struggles there first year...

im one of the manning haters but its still way to early to even call him a bust.

another qb who really hasnt stood up like expected is joey harrington, if he doesnt improve next season he wont have any other excuses such as no running game since kevin jones is playing very well.

Agree Eli is so far a bust, but its too early to write him off yet....

Your mate Burger's figures very ordinary...lucky Bettis was there to throw a TD... ;-)

Whilst Eli is certainly having it tough this year, I think he will come through this a better player for it though.

Roethsliburger has to be the rookie of the year, and I don't think anyone else rates a serious mention. But the steelers are playing the ultimate team game where everyone does their part. The defence is making life very tough for opposing offences. The RB's are keeping the defences honest, the O-line is giving him time and Recievers are managing to catch the ball.
Under those same conditions I think any number of struggling QB's would be feeling a little better.

I bet AJ Feeley would love to say the same about his backs and recievers.

i dunno about big ben being rookie of the year..his done a great job and he does have some great stats for a rookie (14tds 6ints 103.2qb rating) but its not an easy win for him..

Daunte Robinson, DeAngelo Hall and maybe to a lesser extent Sean Taylor all have a chance at winning the rookie of the year award.

Another R.O.Y. candidate is Tampa Bay WR Mark Clayton IMO. Stats wise, he is the best WR from the class of 2004 and is arguably the leading WR in TB.

Any other year players like Taylor and Clayton would be a good chance for taking out ROY honours. But Rookie Safties and WR's making good contributions to their teams in losing seasons isn't unheard of.

What is unheard of is a Rookie QB taking his team to Divisional honours after a 6-10 season. Sure Roethsliburger is surrounded by plenty of players all pitching in, but the QB is considered the toughest position to play because it is the hub of the Offence. That is why Roethsliburger has to be a certainty for ROY honours.

Hell if it wasn't for the Steelers we'd be looking at the very real prospect of two undefeated teams playing in the SB.

I dont think there is any doubt that with Galloway being the NFL equivalent of a plate of glass with legs - that clayton is the main receiver in Buccaneer land.

However I would struggle to even consider him as rookie of the year ahead of Benny.

My brain isnt working right at the moment, it needs sleep, but im pretty sure Willis McGahee is classified as a rookie this season isnt he? I know its been his first games but im not sure if they counted last season as his rookie year. If he is a rookie he is worth an outsider chance because of what he has done to the Bills.

After looking through some stats it would appear Willis isnt considered a rookie after all, so dont worry about that last thought of mine

Carson Palmer has struggled for most of the year. But he is really starting to find his feet now and hopefully can build on this season to come bursting out of the blocks next year. I forsee Manning doing something similar, just needs to find his feet, and it's not as if he has the best set of recievers to throw too. Also in relation to Warner, yes he was winning games earlier in the year, but then he started to lose the plot, thus the switch to Manning, better to blood the guy so he at least has some experience.

.

poor kurt warner, he's always the fall guy for bad teams.

he was run out of st louis because the coach blamed him for the teams woes but it's plainly obvious now (it was back then too) the coach is the cause of the rams woes.

then in new york he led a pitiful team to a 5-4 record but because he wasn't throwing 4 tds a game like peyton manning the dopey new york fans and sports media began screaming for manning because he must be like his brother. the weak head coach gave in to the pressure and played manning with the predictable result, a total meltdown of the offense.

when he finally pulled manning warner leads the giants down the length of the field for a td on the first drive and nearly goes all the way again on the next. i bet alot of players in the giants team sure wish warner was in control, none more than tiki barber who was a td scoring machine with warner but forgot what the endzone looked like with eli running the show. first drive back with warner behind center tiki gets another td.

and with regards to rothlesburger, he is hands down rookie of the year. sure he's in the best possible situation any rookie qb has found himself in but he still makes the plays. in his first few games he was making plays just on natural ability, shaking off the rush and throwing the deep ball to burress. this guy is definately the real deal.

dont get me wrong..i was one of the people who were suprised when kurt was dropped right before they played the Atlanta falcons, main reason is cause the falcons have one of the best defenses and having a rookie to face that in his debut is just wrong...

having said that, kurt has fumbled alot..he did lead them but he was starting to get back into that fumble habbit. but he still shouldnt have been dumped even though he fell in a slump of sorts.

his benching in st louis was the right call..he fumbled around 7 times in 2 games or so, thats never good. mike martz shouldnt be blammed too much but its weird that with kurt he didnt try and get max protection like he did with bulger, but that could be cause of how fast warner can deliver the ball, it worked well for the couple of seasons that he was starting.

I still feel that had he not been benched he may have kept the giants in playoff contention in the nfc.

Manning went OK ( compared to rest of season efforts) on the weekend versus the Steelers...looked confident and seemed to have more time..

Not much intensity from the Steelers D though...

Bump - Eli looks a lot better this year. I'm starting to fear that he may end up better than Rothlesberger in the long run. Big Ben hasn't looked accurate to me this year.

Both guys have strong casts around them. Ben complements his team better IMO, he isn't asked to win games but makes the throws required, his team believe in him and the Steelers always seem to win.

Eli looks sensational so far, but you'd hope he'd be a gun after the fuss he kicked up.
