End nears for suburban NRL grounds

I am not saying it will or that it is a good idea, there is a move it would seem to consolidate Sydney stadiums to 3 or 4. For those clubs not playing at one of them they will have a tough decision of move to one of them or find the money to redevelop their own grounds. The advantages of moving to a shared stadium are that you get a payment for playing there, have no maintained costs and better facilities for fans and corporates. The down side is the inconvenience of getting to and from it, especially as our game moves increasing fly to evening ko's.

I think you are placing far too much store in one DT article. That paper is considered a joke by most you know.

If clubs want to play at small suburban grounds with fans standing on hills then go ahead but those games should not be seen on FTA TV.

Bobmar has been trying to kill the hills off for a while. Apparently they are a thing of the past. Ive yet to hear a good reason why though.

In the Australian climate, sloping grass hills are a wonderful addition to any stadium.

Good idea
That seems to have worked with Israel and the Palestinians..

Well it worked for Souths and the Rabitohs when both played out of the SFS, and as pointed out, you guys would probably have more claim to owning Kogarah as your team would play more matches there.

As well then it may be possible to get the ground transferred from the council to the control of the NSW Stadiums so that further upgrades are possible with that ownership. It is also more accessible to much more of Sydney which should hopefully mean that those Sharks fans that don't live in the Shire can still attend, while not being that far away from your old home ground.

I agree, I like hills a lot. I spent a lot of time as a kid playing footy on the hills at Penrith and Parramatte stadiums, good times.

Bobmar however thinks they are the devil.

Even as an adult i always choose to sit on the grass hills when i have the choice. I have a season ticket to the knights and i always sit on the hill. I think newcastle has a great setup. A nice modern stadium with a big capacity that is complemented by a hill to sit on.

Sure stadiums like Suncorp or robina or whatever are great to but sometimes i just like an old fashioned hill. That experience is what being a league fan is all about.

The redeveloped Hunter stadium is just about the best Rugby League ground in the world I reckon. You are dead on about it being a great set up.

Thats just your opinion though.

I think an empty ANZ looks shit on TV, should we stop televising those games?

No, the ARLC should subsidise tickets to make it look like a crowd. If that doesn't work reduce the number of teams. They are being paid a billion dollars to put on a show not please some dinosaurs dreaming of the good old days.
