It's nice watching a game where the batter can pick up the ball and lob it to the nearest fieldsman out of courtesy instead of being screamed at "don't touch it!" like when the Aussies play

That shot from Munro was a nasty case of WTF. He's the type of chap who can give himself a few overs to gauge the wicket and easily catch up the pace. At times, he bats like a headless merkin.

And then to top it off, he's decided to give away the longer game to concentrate on short form cricket. He says he missed opportunities etc to get in the team which I agree with because Nicholls has been a selectors favourite because he makes a lovely cappuccino for Gav. But Nicholls is woefully out of form. He surely isn't far off being dropped and Munro could have been next in.

Agree. Can look great against the lesser nations swinging from the hip from ball one - but it is never going to work on a percentage basis against top attacks,

Mark Chapman. Absolutely shot by Moeen there. Seriously, there is no way this bloke is international standard is there? How does he even get a run for Auckland.

Agree with the commentators. Nicholls should have batted up the order. Chapman shouldn't bat 4. He should bat 11. Preferably 12.

Probably hasn't been exposed to much quality spin. Bizarre he was introduced for Australia and England after so many chances to give him a run earlier in the season.

Bizarre indeed. Surely George Worker is injured? Because he did score runs in ODIs earlier this year. He's definitely not international quality at this point. He's the type of bat who needs a couple of seasons playing in NZ A teams.

Yes. Agree.

One thing it also shows is the gulf in class. I shiver with fear for when Taylor ends up retiring.

Director at Fox off having a sleep. Wellington Phoenix got a nice free ad in Australia there.

Can anyone, and I urge anyone, please arrange brain transplants for the two Colin's. His bowling in ODIs is so poor, and he absolutely refuses to grind and insists on bashing even when it is not appropriate, I actually think he should be dropped.

Test team. Yes. ODI team. No.

Clueless classless irresponsible batting. And to think he's done it before in this very series. And when he did so, cost NZ the game in all likelihood.

Not sure I'd have him in the test team tbh, prefer Munro as the extra bowler although that won't happen...

Such a shame Anderson and Neesham have struggled

They both just refuse to grind. They refuse to knock the ball around. Both of them. They are both excellent hitters. I wouldn't care less if every innings they got to 30 off 50, because I'd absolutely back them to finish well. They don't give themselves time to understand the wicket, pace and bounce.

black hole in any form when you have Nicholls and CDG/Santner in the lower middle order

Nicholls isn't good enough, and the other two streaky at best (and also not that good) CDG bats like a #9 (was going to say #8 but that might not be appropriate in the current climate given how impt 8 is)

I will say in Nicholls defence, today he is applying himself and giving himself a chance.

yep, he just so often looks out of his depth and he's had a while to find his feet - I just wonder what in the selectors' minds separates him from Chapman, Bruce, Young, etc etc even Phillips as a bat - all of whom have better first-class records

That square leg umpire should be shot. He's missed two enormous bouncer sides in two overs. They were barely in the TV screen shot.

Perhaps Nicholls applies himself more. The one thing I do occasionally see from him I don't see in those other chaps is he will try to play to what's required. As in, if I need to go after it, I will, if I need to try to hold in, I will. Always successful? No. But some of those other blokes seem one tempo.
