Quote; .....as for ireland not selecting its best players then thats there problem, they've only got maybe 5 games before the world cup..they need to be selecting there best squad minus the australian-irish.....and need to be forcing the likes of mcllorum into making a choice now instead of making the choice after being cut from the england sqaud...

Interesting that Shannon McDonnell (of ireland) was playing for England.

no he was'nt

Yes, I get it. He was a student at a school my wife used to teach at locally & his Dad is/was a talent guy at my local club (Wests).

Apologies, absolutely correct, Shannon McDonnell played for the exiles.
He was previously a member of the Ireland Squad.

I believe he was contacted by Ireland this year.

The exiles were far better looked after for this game. I heard figures of a match payment of €2,500 plus them and their families in the hotel for the week. Ireland got nothing. Or perhaps the usual £100 match payment from the RLIF.

The RLIF really have to step in and sort this fiasco. With former Scotland players playing for England etc.
Once a player plays a game for a country that should be it, no change, unless a massive change in personal circumstances such as moving country (and then only after 4 years or something). There would be much stronger teams from the home nations and Islands. OK, Australia and England would suffer. But are they not the teams always moaning about not having better opposition.
This will have to go to another thread I think
