England V PNG

I don't know about the rest of the league world, but I see the England V PNG game as a deadset danger game for the poms.

If this game was played in the UK, I'd expect the poms to give PNG an absolute hiding. However, this will be played in the heat and humidity of Townsville.

England are not the best performing touring team in the world. If they don't prepare well, I think they could get a rude shock from a team which put over 30 points on Australia A recently.

Put it this way. If PNG are over a 20.5 start, I'd back them hard.

Good point.
Townsville will be a tough place for poms to play.
If they lose against PNG they will have to win both other games - and then we have a very interesting pool.
One of the big three could dip out.

England have yet to prove that they don't have that "frailty" element to their game. You just get the feeling that they have to play a near-perfect game to beat Australia and NZ. They always seem to be one mistake away from an avalanche of points scored aganst them if they make a crucial stuff-up.
If England get behind early in this game, they could do it tough.

I'd have no hesitation in tipping NZ or Australia to beat PNG. With England, I do. Yet, I think England are a better side than NZ when they fire.

Styles make matchups.

You blokes are all suffering from an acute case of wishful thinking. PNG will be slaughtered, and deep down you all know it.

I hope they put up a plucky show for the sake of the comp but England will win by at least 30. We are invincible.

Townsville at this time of year could be like playing in a sauna.
Just like home for the PNG boys, but if it is a particularly steamy day the poms will think they have walked into an oven.

I WANT the Poms to do very well.

If they have a warm-up game in Australian conditions, I think they will be fine. If England don't play a warm-up game in Australian conditions, I really do think that they could go close to losing the game.

I wondered how long it would be before the "Poms had better be wary of PNG" thread would be posted. Don't you think Tony Smith knows what Townsville is like in October? Look after yourselves and we'll do the same. I don't give a flying one what the score is as long as we take two points from the game.

The poms have been done no favours with this game being played in Townsville and the conditions will suit PNG. However, the poms are all professionals and will be a lot fitter and far more skillful than most of the PNG team.

The poms may struggle but I would expect them to run away with the game in the last quarter, even in the heat and humidity.

The Poms have training camps in Spain and now play in the South of France in their summer...

They are pretty used to heat these days. I don't think it'll be a problem...

We've always wanted to see PNG play Tests against Australia and NZ and England, and now we hace it. The other thing - as I have said in another thread - that with PNG in pool 1 we are going to see 3 FTA televised PNG Test matches...

If they were in Pool 2 or 3, we would have to hope for a place in the semis...

If they play like they did a couple of weeks ago and put on 30 points It will be very entertaining...
