How does that compare to last year's series against Tonga ?

Hoping for a better showing from the locals this year.
About the same. I wouldnt hold your breath! I get the sense the fans appetite for tests against anyone other than NZ and Australia is minimal and really needs some work.

Can't wait for this, could be a cracker of a series. Wish it was three matches but we take what we can get as international fans.

I love that we get series/tournaments in both hemispheres these days.

Certainly a positive step forward. Now we need an Australian tour up North! Would also like to see France included in these series.

International footy is slowly headed in the right direction, shame it didn't start 100 years ago.

It's not just the top countries playing either, last weekend Netheands 34 beat Scotland 26. Scotland's team was made up entirely of domestic players.

I'd love to see an emerging nations pool in the WC made up of teams like Scotland, Jamaica, Netherlands, Serbia.. etc using domestic players and not relying on stacking thier teams with Aussies, Kiwis and Brits...but that's a subject for a different thread.

Injured Sydney Roosters forward Victor Radley is among six NRL players named in an extended England squad to prepare for the end-of-season series against Samoa.

Radley, who suffered a fracture to his left scapula in last weekend's loss to the Raiders, has avoided surgery and is hopeful of playing again later in the finals, with the Roosters assured of a top four berth.

He was selected alongside Roosters team-mate Dom Young, Dolphins centre Herbie Farnworth, Knights second-rower Kai Pearce-Paul, Rabbitohs prop Tom Burgess and Raiders lock Morgan Smithies.

Radley, Young, Farnworth, Pearce-Paul and Burgess were members of the England side which lost to Samoa in extra time of their World Cup semi-final in London.
Smithies made his Test debut in last year’s 64-0 mid-season victory over France at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium.

John Bateman was also named after a mid-season move to Warrington from Wests Tigers.

“I’m pleased to have been able to put together a strong and talented squad as we look ahead to the end-of-season Test matches against Samoa," England coach Shaun Wane said.

“There have been several players who have been performing consistently in both the Betfred Super League and the NRL and it has given me some real competition for places.

“With a few weeks still left in both domestic campaigns, I am expecting these players to continue to stand up at the business end of the season and earn their place in the final squad I assemble to face Samoa.

“There is definitely a bit of history and rivalry between ourselves and the Samoans following the Rugby League World Cup in 2022, and we will be hoping people come out to support us as we look for a series victory on home soil.”
Wane has named a 31-strong squad, with Wigan Warriors breakout star Junior Nsemba the newest name included - and the youngest player in the squad, after turning 20 in June.

Nsemba's selection come after some standout performances this season for the reigning Super League, Challenge Cup and World Club Challenge champions.

Wigan team-mate Liam Marshall is the only other uncapped player included with the Warriors flyer leading the Super League try-scoring charts with 22 tries - five more than his nearest challenger.

The two English teams who will open next season's Vegas quadruple header, Wigan and Warrington, have six players each, while St Helens have four and Hull KR three.

Among the Wigan players are former Bulldogs prop Luke Thompson.
England will renew their rivalry with Samoa on Sunday, October 27 at the Brick Community Stadium, Wigan, before meeting once more on Saturday, November 2 at Headingley Stadium in Leeds.

Former England captain Sam Tomkins will return to the set-up as team manager, with Andy Last and Lee Briers, who is leaving Brisbane to join St Helens, continuing as Wane’s assistant coaches.

Tommy Makinson was named in Wane’s squad but has withdrawn due to personal reasons.

Dally M Medallist and Golden Boot winner Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is set to inspire other NRL stars to play for Samoa after committing to his nation of birth in the lead up to the 2026 World Cup.

Tuivasa-Sheck, whose first NRL season since returning from a two-year stint in rugby union ended after a head knock in the Warriors loss to the Bulldogs on Friday night, played 20 Tests for New Zealand from 2013 to 2019.

However, the Apia born superstar advised new Kiwis coach Stacey Jones that he wanted to fulfil a long-held desire to represent Samoa and had made himself available for the end-of-season tour to England.
“I’ve had talks to Roger and he indicated when he came back to the game he wanted to play for Samoa, represent his family, which I respect," Jones told New Zealand’s 1News.

"I said to Rog, 'I would love you to be available for the Kiwis', and he thought really hard, but he had already made his decision when he came back to rugby league to represent Samoa, which I respect."

The decision is a massive boost for Samoa, who became the first Pacific nation to reach a World Cup final in 2022 with a line-up that included Jarome Luai, Stephen Crichton and Brian To’o.

Tuivasa-Sheck won the IRL Golden Boot as international player of the year in 2019 and joined Gary Freeman (1992) as just the second Kiwis international to win the Dally M Medal in 2018.
Samoa coach Ben Gardiner welcomed the move by Tuivasa-Sheck, which could have a similar impact as Jason Taumalolo's decision to turn his back on the Kiwis and play for Tonga at the 2017 World Cup.

Queensland winger Murray Taulagi switched to Samoa during last year's Pacific Championships after being a member of the Kangaroos squad at the 2022 World Cup and other stars are considering representing their Samoan heritage.

Among those who have been linked with Samoa in the past are star Broncos prop Payne Haas and Cowboys strike second-rower Jeremiah Nanai.
“I’ve spoken to Roger and he has shown an interest in playing for Samoa,” Gardiner said. “He is very humble and he said that if his form merits it he would like to make himself available.

“We would love to have Roger, he will definitely be in calculations for selection and if he is fit we will be looking to pick him at the end of the year.”

Samoa qualified for the World Cup final in 2022 after an extra-time field goal by Crichton knocked out England in the semi-final at London’s Emirates Stadium.

In what is being dubbed a “revenge series” for the host nation, Samoa will meet England in a two Test series at Wigan on October 27 and Leeds on November 2.

“We're trying to build a team so that when Samoa goes to the World Cup in 2026, everyone has played together and knows how we want to play,” Gardiner said.

Agreed, I really hope we stick with this rotation of teams touring up north and NZ and Aus go next with of course England coming south once every four years like they are next year.

I'd also I'd like to see the teams going north play France as well.

Theres some very good young talent coming through. They need to be using these tests to get the combos right though, playing Williams instead of Lewis doesnt help England in the long term.

Who's your best halfback? George is still only 29 (I think?). If he is your best he'll be the one they take to the next world cup (31) and potentially, depending on form, the 2030 WC (35).
