wht would they go to the effort of securing the rights then not bother showing it??

The BBC are similar though 'spud. OK they show the highlights programme but at varying times and only in the north on the Sunday with a national replay at wellpastmybedtime o'clock.

Been in Melbourne for 3 years now. Never ever imagined a sport that Australia excel at would be so woefully covered. Australians seemingly can't make good tv programmes, but they make people like Slater, Lockyer, Smith. What's more, Saturday morning, around the time the Sky game could be shown, Ch9 have "Good morning America", a morning news programme for americans about america :-s

It might well be AFL that are to blame around here. There was a rumour they had stipulated when other sports could be shown in their contracts. It's this bizarre chip on shoulder resentment of different sports (the NRL are guilty too), that spoils the overall sports coverage IMO.

Embrace what you excel at Australia! Sport on TV at all times!

If 9 won't show it then let channel 10 have it.

Hi all,

Just sent the following email to RFL. While I'm sure the previous post that said Ch9 has the 2012 coverage is correct, just wanted confirmation from RFL:

Hi,

Please could you confirm who has the TV rights to Super League2012 in Australia?

Quite a number of people have been posing this question online and it would be nice to know, especially with the season only a matter of days away.

The general consensus is that everyone hopes the RFL doesn't sell the rights to Channel 9 again as the coverage is appalling. They have made a mockery of Super League by showing games at midnight on Sunday/Mondays and have treated the English game with disdain.

Obviously any deal for 2012 and beyond has to make sense commercially, but the negative impact on the Super League brand of being relegated to the graveyard timeslots by Channel 9 can't be ignored.

I am a rugby league fan of almost 30 years who moved to Australia 3 years ago.

Thanks in anticipation of your reply.

We really need to get into Channel 9 over there lack of coverage. Does anyone know which is the best e-mail address to send our frustrations on this matter. The only way they are going to listen is by people standing up and telling them. Might also see if we can get onto other media outlets like talkinsport, MMM grill team and big sports breakfast to highlight this isse. I do not use twitter but maybe if we could get Gus or Andrew Voss's twitter address some of us can also push this side.

I will see what I can come up with and lets really get stuck into these guys.

Do channel 9 take emails?

Here is some ways to get this moving.

http://www.bigsportsbreakfast.com.au/contact.php

mailto:info@talkinsport.com.au

http://www.triplem.com.au/sydney/shows/grill-team/contact

You are right hutch can not find e-mail for Channel 9 however I know they have the todayshow e-mail in the morning so there must be someway to get the message across.

I sent this message to talkinsport a few minutes ago so maybe if we can all do the same thing it will help.

Guys,
I have heard that Channel 9 have got the coverage of the Super League again this year.
My understanding is that even though the competition starts this weekend Channel 9 will not show any games until the NRL starts. Why?
Last year waited up a few times to watch the games at midnight after re-runs of the guardian.
Apart from the above question can I ask you to contact a Channel 9 representative and ask;
1) why have you bothered to get the rights to the ESL when you do not show them at a decent hour?
2) Is there a reason why the games could not be shown at say at least 10:30pm so we can get some shut eye before starting work the next day
3) If you can not do this on the main free to air channel what about GO or GEM
4) Do they realise there are thousands of RL supporters that enjoy watching this competition over re-runs of the guardian

Appreciate your support. Will be listening this afternoon after 5 to see how you get on.

just got email back from rfl, they said their agents are talking to two broadcasters at the moment and that it should be finalised by next week. They said they would contact me as soon as they knew....so hopefully not nine.

The 3 years the rights spent with Ch9 would have massively devalued them, it'd be a tough sell for the RFL. I suppose that's why they won't be sold till after the season's started, I guess we'll have to live with illegal streams or internet highlight packages for round 1 and hope that somethings sorted out so at least some of us can watch round 2.

I got the same reply from RFL as emigrated roughyed... so at least there's hope ch9 isn't in the mix.

Not too distressed about missing Widnes or Salford televised games, but it would've been nice to have the option.

Come on Wire!

BBC Radio it is...

BigPond TV (or some/elsewhere) at a pinch.

Just when you start to give Nine a benefit of doubt...

Doesn't look like Nein aren't showing Rnd 1 at any stage..

They have 2 Digi channels they can use, but apparently, they won't be showing it either...

I received another email from the RFL which basically said no deal has been signed yet with an Australian broadcaster but the two companies they are talking to are Nine and Fox.Which means any hope of decent coverage has just gone out the window.

Why is it taking so long, i hope they arent even thinking of asking for more money. The smart thing to do would be hand it to the largest sports broadcaster for a pittance but with guarantees of one game shown live and both replayed at decent hours.

Why? Not sure selling for next to nothing is a great idea. The british game needs money more than anything else in the short term

ESL should consider access on demand over the net.

I'd happily pay for that, providing the quality is good.
